It appears the NYPD have captured the man responsible for the attempted Times Square bombing. He was trying to get on a plane to Dubai. Great Job.
Unfortunately, the suspect is not what New York mayor Michael Bloomberg had hoped for.
“If I had to guess 25 cents, this would be exactly that. Homegrown, or maybe a mentally deranged person, or somebody with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something. It could be anything,” he said.
Yup, ’cause when somebody tries to kill thousands of people in New York it usually is somebody who thinks the government should respect the Constitution.
Despite the mayor’s deepest desires, it turns out the the suspect is just the same ol’ same ol’ when it comes to attempted mass murderers.
NEW YORK – Authorities arrested a U.S. citizen in connection with the failed bombing attempt in New York’s Times Square as he tried to leave the country, Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday.
Faisal Shahzad, 30, was arrested at 11:45 p.m. ET Monday night by Customs and Border Protection agents as he attempted to board an Emirates airlines flight to Dubai at New York’s JFK airport, officials said.
“It is clear that the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans,” Holder said.
We don’t know much yet but the NBC report goes on to say…
Shahzad, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Pakistan, was accused of driving a car bomb into Times Square, authorities said. He will appear in Manhattan Federal Court later Tuesday.
…
Earlier, officials told The Associated Press that the suspect recently returned from a trip to Pakistan, where he has a wife. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the case was at a sensitive stage.
Bloomberg, for his part, hasn’t given up hope that a tea partier will kill somebody some day. In the meantime, the Mayor has taken the now commonplace step of banning tea in all New York City restaurants.
No word yet on what Shahzad thinks about the health-care bill.

Point taken about the NYT. I wouldn't like it.
BUT…I would also point out that NYT got "this" fact wrong, and "that" fact wrong, and so on. I wouldn't ONLY point out their bias.
In this case, again, there is no dispute whatsoever by Little Green Footballs with the facts about Islam that Spencer and many other have written about. No one is attacking Spencer's points on Islam!
In fact, forget Spencer, then. Why even talk about him? No valid source disputes his serious exegesis of Islamic texts, but forget him if it helps.
Just read what has been written by innumerable Muslim scholars on Islam. I could give you a REALLY long list. But I won't. (Gave you a couple other sources above) Start with Mohammed. Read other Muslim and former Muslim scholars. Read anything that's comes out of Al-Azhar University in Cairo (main authority on Sunni faith). Heck – we are talking about terrorists – have you read what they have said about Islam and why they kill us? It is not a mystery. It is all over the place in black and white.
Brian I am not really directing this at you, per se, and you raise valid points about the importance of checking your sources, etc. (You didn't check the motivation behind the LGF article authors though, did you?) My point is just that it is incorrect to view Islam through any lens other than a Muslim one that is based on the writings of the Koran, the Hadith and the Sura.
Maybe as Catholics we just want so bad to imagine that all religions are mainly good if somehow just misdirected, and that only "fringe", "extremist" Muslims would support violence. But that is not what Mohammad said about it.
Most Muslims I know who say "those terrorists are extremists" haven't even read the Koran or, like millions of others, recite parts of it in Arabic all while not knowing that language.
Last point: It truly is worthwhile understanding this topic. If you dare (not you Brian, again, anyone interested) read, "What the Koran Really Says: Language, Text, and Commentary". Start with learning about the "original Arabic" it was written in a go from there.
Gotta split…be happy…;)
