All I do is win win win. -Donald Trump
All Democrats and two union-owned Republicans stood against the nomination of Betsy DeVos as education secretary but it wasn’t enough. Vice President Mike Pence cast a tiebreaking vote after senators deadlocked.
The two Republicans, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, both had backing in their last elections from the teacher’s unions and I guess they want to receive the John McCain award for most willing to do whatever it takes to get the media and Democrats to like me.
This marked the first time in our nation’s history that a vice president had to cast a tiebreaking vote for a cabinet member. Just imagine for a moment how bonkers Neil Gorsuch’s nomination will be because if there’s two lobbies the Dems care about it’s the death to the unborn lobby and the hey, let’s lock children into failing schools so we can get more money lobby. (Not their official names.)
Devos is for school choice and homeschooling which makes Democrats heads explode.
President Trump via Twitter (because you think he’s going to allow his message to be garbled by the media?): “Senate Dems protest to keep the failed status quo. Betsy DeVos is a reformer, and she is going to be a great Education Sec. for our kids!”
This could be a turning point for education in our country.
