Truth be told, I’d kinda’ accepted the lie that Margaret Sanger speechified to the KKK. I think I mentioned it once a long time ago and received a number of emails and comments. And then I saw it mentioned somewhere as not actually true.
But lo and behold, I’m perusing the interwebs the other day and sure enough I stumble upon the truth of the situation. Sanger actually wrote of it in her book:
“I accepted an invitation to talk to the women’s branch of the Ku Klux Klan…I saw through the door dim figures parading with banners and illuminated crosses…I was escorted to the platform, was introduced, and began to speak…In the end, through simple illustrations I believed I had accomplished my purpose. A dozen invitations to speak to similar groups were proffered.” (Margaret Sanger: An Autobiography, P.366)
This is not even disputable.
That’s the thing that always surprises me. I never fully appreciate the complete disregard of truth some in the political arena have. It’s because they see their ideology more important than fact. So if facts get in the way, they are to be ignored away.
But the truth is that Margaret Sanger was a stone cold racist.
So, remember, any statue of a Confederate soldier or leader must be removed because…racist but the federal government should continue funding the organization created by the racist Sanger which coincidentally tends to be located more often than not in minority dominated neighborhoods.
Coincidence, right?
