My son’s first day of school today. I asked him how he was feeling. “Anxious. Nervous. A little excited. But mostly I want to go back to bed,” he said.
I said, “Not to bring you down but that’s pretty much the rest of your life.”
“Thanks Dad,” he said. “That helped.”
Sometimes parenting just comes easy to me.

God bless you, Dad.
Remembering back to that first day, I feel his pain.
It only took me until SECOND grade to get used to going school.
But tell him that when he retires, he can go back to bed whenever he likes.
It is one of the joys of my retirement. Wake up. Look out the window at the neighbors going to work and school. Wave bye-bye to them. Close the blinds. Jump back in the sack.

I’ll tell him that if he works hard for half a century he will eventually be able to sleep in. Except his bladder will likely wake him up and make him get out of bed 😉
