Implicit in this ask by the bishops is that the Vatican has been lying for years by saying that the consecration was accomplished. I get it. The Vatican has lied and obfuscated about pretty much everything. Why not this?
I’m not sure I’m on board with the whole “they replaced Lucia!!!” conspiracy but there’s tons of evidence that there have been multiple shenanigans pulled concerning Fatima such as the delay in releasing the third secret, the actual release of what they said was the full secret, and whether the act of consecration to Russia actually occurred.
It’s funny because just about fifteen years ago when I started blogging and writing about faith matters, it was clearly outside the mainstream to question the Vatican’s handling of the Third Secret. But since then, we’ve learned a lot more about the Vatican and now it’s very mainstream to question the veracity of those running the Vatican. That’s partly due to many being so obviously corrupt and twice but it’s also the internet of things. We’re pooling information and talking in ways that we didn’t before, which has both good and bad consequences.
Taylor Marshall talks here about the consecration, why it’s needed, and why it likely won’t happen. His take on the “worldwide consecration” is strong. He suggests that if you asked a priest to bless your house but instead he doesn’t show up but said it’s ok because he blessed all the houses in the city at once, do you feel like your house is blessed?
