You know how Iceland brags that they’ve “cured” Down syndrome, while in reality they just kill all Down syndrome children in utero? That sounds a lot like eugenics, doesn’t it?
Good news? Our tech is getting better and can predict many diseases in the genetic code of babies in utero.
Bad news? We have the morality of alley cats.
The New York Times reports: “Orchid screens embryos’ DNA for hundreds of conditions, such as retinitis pigmentosa, which can be traced to a single genetic variant. But the company also goes further, offering what is known as polygenic screening, which gives parents what is essentially a risk profile on each embryo’s propensity for conditions such as heart disease, for which the genetic component is far more complex.
Today it is an expensive procedure offered to patients undergoing in vitro fertilization, who are often but not always infertile couples seeking treatment. But Ms. Siddiqui — and others in Silicon Valley, where investors in and users of this technology abound — envisions such comprehensive screening eventually replacing the old-fashioned way of having children altogether. “Sex is for fun, and embryo screening is for babies,” she said in a video she shared on X. “It’s going to become insane not to screen for these things.”
“These things” presumably refers to conditions like obesity and autism, both of which Orchid says it can screen for. What Ms. Siddiqui and others who run screening companies tend to talk about even less is that such things could also include traits like intellectual ability and height.”
Emma Camp of Reason Magazine posted this in response:
This tech does not *prevent* any children from going blind. It ensures that children who may go blind will never be born. https://t.co/ewAe5X8MyX

She has it right.
This form of high tech eugenics will become popular in a Christ-less society. Think about it. You have a child and she will be competing against other children in her generation for a spouse, a college, a job, right? You see your normally birthed daughter competing against all these taller, more athletic, blue eyed geniuses. So when it comes time for your second child, you might think it would be unfair to your child not to have them genetically screened. It would be too cruel not to. It would be putting them at a disadvantage to all those people who genetically screened their children, right? And you can’t afford a child with a terrible disease, right? And what kind of quality of life is that, anyway?
You see how the reasons can build? You see how in a world without Christ you can rationalize your way to this seemingly bloodless eugenics?
Fortunately, we don’t live in a Christ-less world. And we must hold to that because we are barreling towards an age where only deeply religious people will have been conceived naturally.
What happens when the vast majority of children are conceived in labs and screened for diseases, athletic ability, intelligence, and appearance? Then, you have these religious people with a sick child. They may protest you as a parent. They may say society should no longer support people giving birth to children with a propensity for a calamitous and expensive disease. Perhaps they’ll demand that public funds not help such backwards couples who refuse to accept the science. For those who remember Covid, “trust the science” came to be a haunting phrase that accompanied people losing their jobs.
The majority will see this eugenics as the loving option because you are the one who insists on bringing sick inferior children into the world. All they want are healthy, wonderful babies for everyone. They want less suffering but YOU are standing in the way.
Couldn’t you see a world where you as a parent are brought up on charges for cruelty to children for birthing a “defective” child with a painful disease?
I don’t see how this is avoided, to be honest, barring a massive Christian revival throughout this country. Pray for one because Christ is our only hope, not science, scientists, or those who preach death in the name of health.

What is worse is what comes after. People will still get sick and have accidents. People will lose their vision and hearing; people will become disfigured or lose limbs. What will become of them? Will they become second class citizens, dependent on government programs or charity? Or worse, encouraged to die so that they are not a burden on society?
And then if the government begins to require genetic testing…

My fear is that the Church will eventually endorse this shit. Because it’s the “loving” thing to do. Smoke of Satan, etc.

I understand the seriousness of this issue and it’s implications on society, but like the covid jabs many of us saw the dangers and refused to submit . I suspect it will be the same with screening for the perfect child. Many will refuse. It’s hard to say but the covid jabs and the skepticism people now have for science might be a blessing in disguise. People will no longer accept these screenings willy nilly except for the usual suspects who believe in everything except God

“Gattaca,” not just a movie anymore.
