This is the perfect time for St. John Henry Newman to be named a doctor of the Church.
I truly believe the Church is in one of these epochal moments. So many people, especially the young are actively searching for something. They’ve checked out spiritualism, paganism, New-Age-ism, the occult. They went through their Big Atheism phase. Those waves ebbed.
The vast majority have rejected the premises of materialism. They know there’s something more. The Church needs to present itself now as the recipient of the mission of Christ.
Newman said, Good is never accomplished except at the cost of those who do it, truth never breaks through except through the sacrifice of those who spread it.”
This is the moment we live in. This is one of the most exciting times in the history of the Church. Europe is once again mission ground. The future of America is uncertain.
As Tolkien wrote: “Your Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while all the Company is true.”
At this moment, thousands of young Europeans are considering the Catholic Church. So you have all these Anglicans taking an honest look at the Catholic Church.
For the first time in centuries, the Roman Catholic Church in England now surpasses the Church of England in active attendance. Among young people, Catholics outnumber Anglicans. the people are searching for something that only the Catholic Church can provide.
This is a moment tailor made for St. John Henry Newman, a convert from Anglicanism to Catholicism.
Newman wrote: “To be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant.”
Now is the moment for the Church to sound a certain trumpet.
Newman is remembered most now for encouraging the formation of communities among Catholic students attending secular universities. Newman Centers throughout campuses all over the world have have been responsible for the conversion of thousands.
Newman is so closely aligned with education, especially now being declared a doctor of the Church. But he is remarkably accessible. Cor ad cor loquitur was his chosen motto on being selected to be a Cardinal. “Cor ad cor loquitur” (heart speaks to heart). Not mind to mind. Heart to heart.
His writings can reach people actively searching for truth just as he did.
He wrote: I sought to hear the voice of God and climbed the topmost steeple, but God declared: “Go down again – I dwell among the people.

“Abortion is ok, because Newman said doctrines develop and we just developed. Signed, Leo.”
Newman is a heresiarch. Period.

Jerome, that is a straw man argument. You are basing your argument over what you THINK Newman said, or what others imply Newman said, rather than what he actually said. Here are some quotes from his Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine:
“As developments which are preceded by definite indications have a fair presumption in their favour, so those which do but contradict and reverse the course of doctrine which has been developed before them, and out of which they spring, are certainly corrupt; for a corruption is a development in that very stage in which it ceases to illustrate, and begins to disturb, the acquisitions gained in its previous history.”
“A true development, then, may be described as one which is conservative of the course of antecedent developments being really those antecedents and something besides them: it is an addition which illustrates, not obscures, corroborates, not corrects, the body of thought from which it proceeds; and this is its characteristic as contrasted with a corruption.”
