It’s Cardinal Mahony’s white elephant or the Latin Mass on television tomorrow. Hmmm…can’t decide.

EWTN will broadcast a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, live from the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament on Friday, September 14th, at 8 AM. The Mass will be celebrated by clergy of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in commemoration of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Chant for the Mass will be offered by the Poor Clare Nuns of Perpetual Adoration of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery.

This special two-hour broadcast of the “Traditional Latin Mass,” will take place on the effective date for the norms permitting the celebration of Mass according to the Missal of 1962, recently promulgated by Pope Benedict XVI in his Apostolic Letter issued motu proprio, Summorum Pontificum.

But wait. Don’t click on EWTN just yet. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops television outlet will be showing all through September an exploration of the “innovative” creation of the tapestries of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles which integrates twenty-first century technology with artistic tradition. Narrated by actor Edward James Olmos, it portrays the new cathedral’s themes of “spiritual unity” and “ethnic diversity.”

Hmmm…I think every time I look at Cardinal Mahony’s mew Cathedral I’ll think of the poor nuns getting booted out of their convent just so Cardinal Mahony didn’t have to testify. I think I’d rather watch the Latin Mass than stare at this cathedral’s “themes of spiritual unity and ethnic diversity.”
