Republicans and Democrats are declaring victory. Democrats mean it.
The two parties in the House agreed to a 2016 spending deal which continues to fund Planned Parenthood. House Speaker Paul Ryan quickly points out that hey, Republicans didn’t lose ground because we were funding them already.
“We are maintaining all of our pro-life protections, including the Hyde Amendment, and we are making cuts to the UNFPA program,” Ryan said yesterday, according to CNS News.
In 2014, Planned Parenthood received half a billion dollars and performed over 300,000 abortions.
Ryan added that in a divided government “you don’t get everything that you want.”
He called it a compromise. So let’s go over what compromise means in this instance. Democrats wanted to fund Planned Parenthood. Republicans wanted to divert funding away from Planned Parenthood to other women’s health centers. Now, the government is funding Planned Parenthood. Compromise? I don’t think that word means what he thinks it means.
