Michael Knowles calls it scandalous. I think what he’s saying is that this news should jar many people because many of us tend to separate our faith and morals from our everyday lives.
I remember one of my college professors asked the class what the most important historical event was. This was a history class. I think I suggested the Magna Carta. Someone else said the Battle of Hastings. Other guesses were flung about with the confidence of undergraduates.
But then the professor pointed out that the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ was the most important HISTORICAL event. He’d caught us all. We all had separated out Christ from history. To us, he was a theological figure. A moral figure. But somehow we’d excluded HIM from history.
The Shroud is a much needed reminder that Christ was real and is real.
We live in an age where many turn their backs on religion because they say they’re all about science. Well how about when science backs up religion?
A new study done on the Shroud of Turin has found that the purported burial cloth of Jesus is 2,000 years old rather than several hundred years old. This is scandalous, even for some religious people who want religion to be an abstract thing. pic.twitter.com/VPlhO9BKsw
