Amid the cheers and huzzahs, there is a petard and it is being hoisted.

In December, the Department of Education said that transgender students in public schools should be enrolled in single-sex classes that match how they live their lives day-to-day.

This was heralded as a great advancement by progressives. The worry at the time by Neanderthal oogedy-boogedy religious types was the use of bathrooms and showers.

The memo stated that federal law protects students’ decisions made in accordance with what they call their gender identity. “Under Title IX,” it reads, a school “must treat transgender students consistent with their gender identity in all aspects of the planning, implementation, enrollment, operation, and evaluation of single-sex classes.”

OK. Got that?

Now get this. Jonathan Last pointed out the controversy around whether Bruce Jenner’s athletic accomplishments rightly belong -as in the female category or the male category. This is a serious discussion among the unserious.

Watch the Wikipedia page for the 400 meter sprint over the coming days. The page was recently edited to add the following line about the world record time for women:

The current women’s world record is held by Marita Koch, with a time of 47.60 seconds. However Caitlyn Jenner is the fastest woman’s performer of all time, running a time of 47.51 in 1976 while competing under the name Bruce Jenner.

After this line was added, the page went through a flurry of revisions before the line was stricken and moved over to the Talk section, where the following comment now resides:

Caitlyn Jenner ran a 47.51 at the 1976 Olympics, a best of all time for women in the event. At the time, she went by the name Bruce. I feel it would be extremely transphobic to erase her identity and belittle her accomplishments by failing to mention this time. Although the IAAF has not, and likely will not, ratify Caitlyn’s time as a world record, it deserves mention here as an all-time woman’s best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.235.91.193 (talk) 15:40, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Now, obviously you’re not going to have a rash of men wanting to compete in women’s sports. Normal people just don’t do that. That would be weird. But you might very well have a few random men who declare that they feel like women and clean up by winning female competitions. But it won’t be widespread. Not many, right?

But what if $200,000 was on the line? Seriously. How many dudes would declare themselves women for four years if it meant an athletic scholarship to college? Probably not an insignificant number. And, according to the rules as laid out by leftists, colleges would have to accept them.

So you could have a situation where Title IX, which was a liberal attempt to increase the number of athletic scholarships offered to girls, may go towards scholarships of boys pretending to be girls. And they will be trapped into doing so by their own extreme agenda.

So it would seem colleges and universities will have to establish some standards. Then, we might have colleges and universities being forced to investigate whether the man took…uhm…the big step. That seems a little awkward. Or perhaps they’ll be forced to provide evidence of some form of testosterone suppression therapy or just a note signed by a doctor.

So now you’re going to have colleges and universities deciding who is girl enough to play in girl’s sports. Soooo… we have other people deciding for people what gender they are. Isn’t that what we were supposedly trying to get away from?
