It’s being reported pretty much everywhere that Pope Francis just posed for the first selfie. Here it is:

But is it a “selfie” if you don’t take it yourself? The Urban Dictionary states that a “selfie” is “A picture taken of yourself that is planned to be uploaded to Facebook, Myspace or any other sort of social networking website. You can usually see the person’s arm holding out the camera…”

Not go get all technical but this clearly doesn’t qualify. You might be able to argue that this young woman took a selfie with the pope in it but I don’t think you can argue that this is a papal selfie.

And besides he wasn’t even pursing his lips.

I think the world will still have to wait for the first official papal selfie.
