Perusing the varied reactions to the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, I believe that some early awards are due. The winner here really outdid himself.
The award for best actor in an un-supportive role is Bishop Luca Brandolini, a member of the liturgy commission of the Italian bishops’ conference.

“I can’t fight back the tears. This is the saddest moment in my life as a man, priest and bishop,”

“It’s a day of mourning, not just for me but for the many people who worked for the Second Vatican Council. A reform for which many people worked, with great sacrifice and only inspired by the desire to renew the Church, has now been cancelled.” [source]

I must say that after reading Bishop Brandolini’s reaction, I broke out in tears too. Tears of laughter. Not to be overlooked though is the runner-up, perennial favorite Father Tom Reese S.J. of the Woodstock Theological Center at Washington’s Georgetown University.

“Where there are groups that want it, it’s going to be a real pain in the neck for the pastor. He’s going to be pressured to do it.” [source]

Man, I love these guys! This is going to be a fun two months leading up to September 14th. Then the real fireworks will begin.
