Uruguay has decided to stop illegal abortions. How? Legalize them.
Latino Fox News reports:
In what is seen as a groundbreaking move in Latin America, Uruguay’s Congress appears ready to legalize abortion, making the southern cone country the only nation along with Cuba to legalize the procedure in the region.
Compromises made to secure votes disappointed both sides of the abortion divide, which gathered in protest. Once it gets through Uruguay’s lower house, the measure would go back to the Senate for approval of changes, but President José Mujica has said he will allow it to become law.
The measure would give women the right to a legal abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, and decriminalize later-term abortions when the mother’s life is at risk or when the fetus is so deformed that it wouldn’t survive after birth. In cases of rape, abortions would be legal during the first 14 weeks.
The goal is to reduce the number of illegal abortions in Uruguay, Congressman Iván Posada of the center-left Independent Party told his fellow lawmakers Tuesday. Posada wrote the measure and is expected to provide a key 50th vote against the opposition of 49 other lawmakers.
This makes no sense. And it’s just sad.

The late President Bordaberry was the Saviour of Uruguay from Marxist Subversion….but sad to say,he was jailed on trumped-up charges of multiple murder.
Uruguay needs him now more than ever, that now abortion was legalized!

It DOES make sense in pro-abort world.

We can likewise reduce illegal muggings by making muggings legal.

And hey, while we're at it, if we just made assassinations legal (if carried out by licensed practitioners), hitmen wouldn't have to eliminate witnesses. I'm sure that'd make mob hits "safe, legal, and rare".

Um… guys… that's exactly why Roe vs Wade went through. In case you didn't know. They dressed it up by pretending that illegal abortions were never safe, and that legal abortions were never unsafe; but that was always the gist of it.

@suburbanbanshee: Oh, we know. Well, I did; I assume the others do, too, it's fairly well known in these circles (especially since Bernard Nathanson, the guy who came up with the tactic, switched sides).
And now Uruguay is repeating the folly.
