Fun. Informative. I must admit I had no idea that one state of the union gave women the right to vote earlier than all the others.

I knew about that.
Did you know women in "High Medieval" France, from say 1100 to 1300, could vote in any assembly men could? Also own property, practice trades, and file lawsuits.
The whole "women treated as minors" thing comes from the Renaissance, because that had been the law in Ancient Rome.

Being a history teacher from NJ, I did indeed know this, and I teach it to my proud young Jerseyans every year.
Of course women eventually became "obnoxious" to the political establish and the laws were revised to restrict them from the franchise. Thus NJ was not only the first state to grant women suffrage but also the first (and only?) to revoke it.
