I just received this sad email from my buddy Edel Finnegan, the Director of the Pro-Life Union of Greater Philadelphia.
Just wanted you to know in case you had not heard. John Stanton the beloved founder of the ProLife Union of Greater Philadelphia and friend to the unborn passed away today on the Feast of St. John Bosco. He was surrounded by his beloved family.
John was a phenomenal man and wonderful pro-life leader. He was friendly, always willing to talk, a true believer, and a good father. His son, Pat, is also on the board.
John and his son, Pat, tried to get down to the March for Life last week but were stopped by the snow much like me and my kids.
John hadn’t missed a March for Life for 40 years until this past one. But it wasn’t for lack of trying. The archdiocesan buses were cancelled so he and his son attempted to drive through the snow to Washington DC, much like my kids and I did. The Stantons’ windshield kept freezing up so they had to turn around.
God bless John Stanton and God bless his family. He built a great pro-life organization and we should all pray they continue John Stanton’s good work.

Rest in peace, Mr. Stanton. Such a humble, untiring servant-leader and lover of the Lord. May we all imitate his unwavering dedication to the cause of protecting life.
