You see it on display every time an African American chooses not to tow the party line. Clarence Thomas has probably seen more genuine racism than anyone can imagine.
But politicians are usually clever enough to mask their racism. Not so Alabama Democrat, Rep. Alvin Holmes said on the Alabama House floor that he doesn’t like Clarence Thomas because he is married to a white woman.
Later realizing that such open racism grounds for criticism, he tried to walk back his statement saying that interracial marriage is just fine, but its Clarence Thomas’ being an ‘Uncle Tom’ that bothers him.
Way to walk back that racism.
