You know how crazy right wing Catholicy guys like me are always warning that Big Government will always seek to crowd out religion. This story would seem to support that case.

A 90-year-old Florida man was fingerprinted and cited for illegally feeding the homeless. And this is the second time.

Arnold Abbott and a team of chefs began preparing food for the homeless on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Abbott was eventually arrested by the police, fingerprinted, and cited as a violator of a new ordinance which makes it a crime to feed the homeless in public punishable by 60 days in jail. 60 days.

“It’s our right to feed people, it’s our First Amendment right and I believe in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man, and we should be allowed to feed our fellow man,” Abbott reportedly said.

The mayor, Jack Seiler, said the law is meant to ensure that the government helps the homeless. “Mr. Abbott has decided that he doesn’t think these individuals should have to have any interaction with government, that they should be fed in the parks. We disagree,” Seiler reportedly said.

Wow, now that’s a rationalization, huh? Mr. Abbot is being unfair to the homeless by feeding them? It would be much better for them to be forced to deal with a faceless bureaucracy than a man committed to loving others, I guess.

New York City also implemented something like this as well. Terrible. Trust the government. They know best.
