Cardinal Raymond Burke here said something completely reasonable and true and the world absolutely freaks.
Cardinal Raymond Burke has said there is “no question that Islam wants to govern the world”, and that Western societies should return to their Christian roots.
Speaking to David Gibson of Religion News Service, Cardinal Burke, the patron of the Order of Malta, said Muslims were “lovely people” who themselves talked about religion “in a very peaceful manner”.
But he said too few people understood the tradition of Islamic thought on government: that, when Muslims became a majority population, “they have the religious obligation to govern that country. If that’s what the citizens of a nation want, well, then, they should just allow this to go on. But if that’s not what they want, then they have to find a way to deal with it.”
Cardinal Burke said that, for anyone “not at peace with the idea of being under an Islamic government”, it was reasonable to be “afraid” of such a prospect.

Its a simple fact that nothing intelligent or sane comes from demonizing an entire religion.
Religious freedom isn’t just for the faiths that are popular. They are most important to the ones which are despised.

The only difference between the two is that we took away the latter’s means for doing so.
Your vision of history is blinkered, to say the least. Extremists? How about the Catholics and Protestants a slaughtering each other for 250 years, or slaughtering the Jews, or slaughtering Muslims.

Does he not know about that item in the Constitution that says “no religious test for office”? Does he not know about the Enlightenment?
Is he unfamiliar with the way the Catholic church has ridden roughshod over the rights of people in the past century–in Ireland, Spain, Poland, and other countries?
Hawaii Dave, you are right, of course, that Islam is dangerous. There is not a single heavily Muslim country in the world that enjoys the liberties of any Western country.
I dunno….maybe the cardinal is more vicious and dangerous than ignorant.

Burke has a Trump-like disdain for Islam, and for anyone who disagrees in the slightest with his pronouncements. Ray missed another marvelous opportunity here to keep his mouth tight shut.
