Can someone please explain to me what exactly “alt-right” actually means? Or is it like the term “fundamentalist” Christian which essentially means a Christian who takes it a little too seriously for others’ taste? It’s true. For years, I saw some Christians tarred with the “fundamentalist” moniker. Usually politicians like Rick Santorum. When the media used it, it meant someone who actually believes all that crap.

When I hear the term “alt-right” on the news, they seem to be implying some level of racism is involved in the term but, according to them, racism is involved in the whole right, not just the aforementioned alt-right.

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt was quoted in the LA Times, saying: “It is a sad day when a man who presided over the premier website of the alt-right … is slated to be a senior staff member in the people’s house.”

The LA Times went on to clarify what alt-right means, defining it this way:

It’s a brand of far-right conservatism that generally embraces and promotes white nationalism, racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, transphobia and misogyny.

But, like I said, isn’t that what the LA Times thinks of all social conservative Republicans?

Should I even be looking for a clear definition or is the term just a scare tactic itself to imply hate and racism?
