Somebody please tell me this isn’t real.
A Catholic priest in Italy has reportedly announced that he’s cancelling a nativity scene in the local cemetery because it might offend Muslims.
Fr Sante Braggiè, of Cremona, reportedly said that because “a small corner of the cemetery is reserved for Muslim graves…A crib positioned within sight of them could be seen as a lack of respect for followers of other faiths, hurt the sensibilities of Muslims, as well as Indians and even atheists.”
But let’s face it. Atheists don’t get all choppy choppy about being offended. So don’t even bring that up, please. This is about being afraid of Muslims freaking out. This is about backing down. This is cowardice disguised as cultural sensitivities.
His predecessor there, Fr Oreste Mori, couldn’t even believe it when he was told, saying, “Seriously? I can’t believe it.”
He then said, “We cannot renounce our culture and traditions” because “that would be an unpardonable weakness.”
Indeed.
