MIA is a singer. I guess she’s pretty well known. She performed at the Super Bowl with Madonna and Nicki Minaj. She was kind of known as being controversial. During her Super Bowl performance she caused “controversy” for flipping the entire nation the bird.

She’s sold millions of records but was also known for her controversial stances. Music critic Jon Dolan of Spin noted M.I.A. may be a “confused revolutionary? brilliant provocateur?” and one of the most polarising yet thrilling figures in pop music today.”

She was pretty much a straight up leftist/anarchist type and she was praised by the media at every turn.

But then something happened.

Last year, MIA, whose real name is Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, converted to Christianity. And now she really knows what controversy is.

According to reports, MIA had a “supernatural encounter” with Christ that changed her life. But that has come with consequences.

Fox News: “Basically, all of my fans might turn against me because they are all progressives who hate people that believe in Jesus Christ in this country,” she said in the Apple Music interview.

“[E]ven if it costs me my career, I won’t lie. I will tell the truth, and I will tell you what’s on my mind and my heart. If I’m coming back now saying ‘Jesus is real,’ there’s a point,” she added.

The singer told Relevant Magazine in September she doesn’t have all the answers but is still coming to terms with her spiritual experience.

“I’m still very much even working out what this all means,” she conceded. “At the moment, I feel like I have to stick to who I’ve always been, which is to tell the truth. This experience happened. And I have to tell the truth about it.”

God bless her. It takes courage but that courage comes with graces.

“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
