I believe HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius who is currently attempting to force Catholic institutions to pay for contraception calls herself a “practicing Catholic.” I’ve even seen the word “devout” used a few times.
But in a recent interview that’s on Campus Notes, Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke questioned Sebelius’ Catholicism pretty directly.
“To the degree to which (Sebelius) proclaims herself to be a practicing Catholic, she is very wrong,” said Cardinal Burke. He sees it as “simply incomprehensible” for a Catholic to “support the kind of measures that she is supporting.”
Maybe Sebelius is practicing a modern strain of Catholicism known as Pelosism.
Sebelius infamously declared war on pro-lifers at a NARAL event. “We’ve come a long way in women’s health over the last few decades, but we are in a war.” Uhm. Who would that war be against? The Catholic Church, which says all life is sacred?
It’s funny (in a sad pull out your hair way) that Sebelius just a few years ago said, “My Catholic faith teaches me that all life is sacred, and personally I believe abortion is wrong.”
So she knows what she’s doing is wrong but does it anyway. I sincerely wish that all Catholics had the bravery of Cardinal Burke to say the truth.
