There are certain phrases that conjure up images so frightful one shudders at the mere mention. Swarm of killer bees. School of piranha. National Meeting of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions. Brrrrrrr.
Going on right now members of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions from around the country are meeting in Portland Oregon. Now I am sure that some of the members of these liturgical commissions are very fine people. Call me jaded, but when all these good people get together, bad things, man. Bad things.
Case in point. They kicked off this meeting by taking a bus over to St. Andrews Church for evening prayer. Seems like a good idea, but…Here are some photos from St. Andrew’s website.

What is the difference between a terrorist and a liturgist? You can negotiate with the terrorist.

Interesting. That parish doesn't have a Knights of Columbus council or a Catholic Daughters of America court, but it does have a Voice of the Faithful chapter. Why am I not surprised.

Important to note is that these people who run this conference are not just any old liturgists, they are the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions…in other words, they are the OFFICIAL umbrella organization for all the diocesan level Offices of Worship and liturgical educators in seminaries, universities, etc. And THAT parish is what they deem acceptable as a role model? (By the way, the parish had one of those giant puppets in the church for Morning Prayer on Tuesday.)
This is what the FDLC's own web site says about its status: http://www.fdlc.org/About_FDLC.htm
The Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC) is a national organization composed primarily of members of diocesan liturgical commissions, worship offices and/or the equivalent diocesan liturgical structures. These diocesan liturgical personnel, appointed by their bishops, have responsibility for the promotion of the liturgical life of their dioceses. The FDLC serves as an official collaborating agent between the local churches through diocesan worship offices and liturgical commissions and the USCCB Bishops’ Committee on Divine Worship (BCDW).
Okay BCDW–whaere are you on this?

Santayana on Unitarians:
"It seemed a little ridiculous, all those good people in their Sunday clothes, so demure, so conscious of one another, not needing in the least to pray or to be prayed for, nor inclined to sing, but liking to flock together once a week, as people in Spain flock to the paseo, and glad to hear a sermon like the leading article in some superior newspaper, calculated to confirm the conviction already in them that their bourgeois virtues were quite sufficient and that perhaps in time poor backward races and nations might be led to acquire them."
Rings a bell with me. These people worship their own exquisite sensibilities.

Bigoted /big·ot·ed/ˈbigətid/
Adjective:
Obstinately convinced of the superiority or correctness of one's own opinions and prejudiced against those who hold different opinions.
Expressing or characterized by prejudice and intolerance.
I see much offering of "correct" opinions and intolerance, and very little interest in removing divisions in the church, in these comments.
Interesting.

Greg, if people like you and those who run St. Andrew's would fulfill the Catholic obligation to adhere to the teachings of Holy Mother Church, then the divisions in the Church of which you speak would disappear. Holy Mother Church's doctrines are indeed correct — not "correct" — and adherence to Catholic Faith and doctrine is not bigoted, it is the path to true understanding and to salvation. The people at St. Andrews have departed from the Apostolic Faith; that much is clear from the content of the parish's website. You remove divisions in the Church by bringing wayward souls back to the Truth. Next time why don't you just say plainly what you mean instead of trying to be coy about it?

So, Greg, to whom do you address your bigoted definition & comments? Is it the assembling Liturgists or a commenter here at CMR?
Oh, yes, you do clarify your target audience with your last word. Forgive me, I was anticipating an equally likely, but opposite and more appropo, audience.
