Barack Obama – All Un-American
The last thing he said to me, ‘Barack,’ he said, ‘sometime when life is up against it and the breaks are beating the babes, tell them to go out there with all they’ve got and win just one for Tiller.’
I am more convinced than ever that the only way to salvage something from this debacle is for Jenkins to go. His smug defiance cannot stand.
Obama said,”In this world of competing claims about what is right and what is true, have confidence in your values” That’s what ND should have done.
O speech “the fact is that at some level, the views of the two camps are irreconcilable” Yes, Mr. Pres. Either alive or not.
O said, “Those against stem cell research may be rooted in admirable conviction about the sacredness of life.” contrasting those who support it to cure diabetes. All life Mr Pres. All life. Not just the born.
O said, “whether violent extremism; the spread of nuclear weapons or pandemic disease – do not discriminate.” Unlike say, abortion!
Paraphrasing Jenkins, “All who oppose me are unreasonable, prideful, self interested.” Disgraceful. I am actually bother more by Fr. Jenkins smug superiority and defiance than Obama’s speech. Fr. Jenkins should know better.

I did not see it, but your comment causes me to wonder, is there a transcript of Fr. Jenkins’ introduction?

I found a found Fr. Jenkins’ introduction here:

The ND response rally was awesome. Hopefully they’ll get the speeches on YouTube soon!

Fr. Jenkins needs to be disciplined for inviting Obama to begin with, for defying the 70+ exhortations of the bishops, for scandalizing 350,000+ of those who petitioned, for producing a batch of college graduates who valued prestige over their commitment to the Lord. ND needs to be investigated if it still qualifies to carry the name of the Church. If it were up to me, I’d have it razed to the ground.
May 18, 2009 at 1:58 am
I’m with Rick; however, I think Fr. Jenkins should be defrocked.
I’m so angry I can’t even find the words to convey my furor over ND. What happened to Fr. Weslin is unspeakable.
My children will NEVER be permitted to even consider attending Notre Dame in the future!

What a pathetic, unaccepting, UnCatholic website. You are the types of people that will face harsh judgement. Your inner hatred and contempt for people you disagree with is both disusting and direspectful. You all call Obama unAmerican, yet you all epitomize what is unAmerican. Get a life, grow up, stop acting like a baby that cries if their way isn’t the way everyone believes, and learn to function in a society WHERE THERE ARE DIFFERING VIEWS ON THINGS. You all are the types of people that make religion so hard to stomach. Oh and lastly..so mad Obama isn’t pro-life, bush loved Bush for his pro-life stance…how about being pro-life FOR THE LIVING…ya know, supporting people alive..fighting poverty, fighting for health care…oh yeah, “pro-life” doesn’t extend to the people living here now…it ends at birth…hypocrits abound
May 18, 2009 at 3:30 am
To the woman who said her kids can’t even consider ND…way to push your own misguided, absolutely mind boggling views on someone else…but it doesn’t surprise me you’d say that…people like you show why if we need a license to drive, we should need a license to breed….
May 18, 2009 at 3:32 am
“permitted”…you act as if your children are just property with no rights and minds of their own…but I’m sure you don’t wind them to have a mind, just do what is propogated to them by you…..scary to think you are raising human beings….

Kevin,
Aren’t you late for homeroom or something?
May 18, 2009 at 4:07 am
Kevin – We are the type of people who speak up when our so-called Catholic leaders act in un-Catholic ways, confusing non-Catholics as to what the faith is all about, and scandalizing faithful Catholics in the process. We are also the Catholics supporting the largest pro-life for the living organization in the world. The Church has more hospitals, provides more AIDS treatment, places more adoptive children, counsels more post-abortive mothers, in other words, CARES FOR THE LIVING, than any other organization on the planet.
Your snide comments about pro-lifers ending their concerns at birth or needing a license to breed are bigoted ingnorance. Stick around, we will be happy to show you what the Church established by Jesus Christ is doing every day, around the world, to care for the living. And to make sure all intended to live get that option.
May 18, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Wow.
Can we get some screening on the comments?
May 18, 2009 at 1:01 pm
Not that I know enough to speak for Mr. Archbold, but screening of comments is only to weed out profanities and the like. Ignorant bilge such as that posted by Kevin (see “rectal orifice”) need to get through. He has a right to spew his rhetoric, and I support that.
We, his so-called “pathetic, unaccepting, and un-Catholic” readers also need to know what hethinks is right, so that we can better educate the masses and argue more effectively.

What a pathetic, unaccepting, UnCatholic website. You are the types of people that will face harsh judgement.Ok. Let’s see if anything that follows supports that…
Your inner hatred and contempt for people you disagree with is both disusting and direspectful.Oh wait. I thought we were going to get evidence and logic, not dubious mind reading and psychoanalysing, but that’s ok. I’ll take it as a head-clearing exercise before you move on to something substantial.
You all call Obama unAmerican, yet you all epitomize what is unAmerican.Huh? What? Who said that? I am actually an anti-American (anti-USG to be specific) and I don’t think Obama is anti-American. Just the opposite. He’s too American. That is, he possess all of Americanism’s faults and none of its virtues.
You all call Obama unAmerican, yet you all epitomize what is unAmerican.
Get a life, grow up, stop acting like a baby that cries if their way isn’t the way everyone believes, and learn to function in a society WHERE THERE ARE DIFFERING VIEWS ON THINGS.Show me a country that has the different view that holding up a convenience store at gunpoint is morally acceptable. Oh that’s right there aren’t any. That’s because people haven’t quite gone so mad as to believe it is good. It’s wrong period. Just like abortion.
You all are the types of people that make religion so hard to stomach.No. Concupiscience makes religion hard to stomach. Or as Mark Shea likes to put it, “Sin makes you stupid.”
Oh and lastly..so mad Obama isn’t pro-life, bush loved Bush for his pro-life stanceI don’t like Bush, but I don’t hate him either. Here’s a thought: try talking to people instead of abusing them. You might learn something.
how about being pro-life FOR THE LIVING…ya know, supporting people alive..fighting poverty, fighting for health care…oh yeah, “pro-life” doesn’t extend to the people living here now…it ends at birth…hypocrits aboundThe only way it is hypocritical is if there are pro-life people advocating rounding up homeless people and shooting them. Pro-lifers rather do lots of charity work and more so than any others I’ll wager.
To the woman who said her kids can’t even consider ND…way to push your own misguided, absolutely mind boggling views on someone else…but it doesn’t surprise me you’d say that…people like you show why if we need a license to drive, we should need a license to breed….There is nothing mind-boggling about asserting the truth that deliberatelty killing the innocent in the womb is objectively wrong. As far as not permitting attendance at ND. much ado about nothing. She technically couldn’t force them to not attend, but she certainly doesn’t have to pay for it.
people like you show why if we need a license to drive, we should need a license to breed….In other words, show up to some government agency, barf up the usual progressivist platitudes, and get your license. In other words, you’re The Man. The Establishment. The Authority that no one is supposed to question.
“permitted”…you act as if your children are just property with no rights and minds of their own…but I’m sure you don’t wind them to have a mind, just do what is propogated to them by you…..scary to think you are raising human beings….And lemme guess. If you had children and it came time to talk about abortion, you would present the pro-life position is the fairest possible light, right? Somehow, I don’t think so.

Here’s a YouTube video about what Catholics do for the living over the centuries. IMHO, we do more than any sect or religion.

Re: license to breed, God gives that one after marriage. We believe in the sanctity of marraige too because it is a sacrament – a visible sign of an invisible reality.
May 18, 2009 at 2:18 pm
By greeting their honoree with thunderous applause, the crowd sent the following message:
You abortion protesters are a bunch of party poopers. This day is all about us and our graduates. It is not about God or His will for our church and our nation.
My skin crawls at the thought that this could have happened at a “Catholic” college. Truly this is the work of the evil one.

Interestingly, Fordham University presented Mayor Michael Bloomberg with an honorary degree this weekend. In addition, Senator Charles Schumer, described as a good friend of the university, was a speaker. I guess Fordham figured everyone would be distracted by Notre Dame so they could fly under the radar screen.

I am not an American but Ihave followed the ND controversy from the start. There are those who have attended ND who came from our country to the North. Abortion is ugly and the hurts from it go on and on. I have lost one grandchild through this evil perpetrated on women. My daughter about 25 years after the fact still hurts. Just two days ago, she said to me again. “I killed my child. It is something I will never forget.” I would give my life to take this burden from her.
May 18, 2009 at 10:13 pm
A second thought on a less personal level. Examine closely what the President said about “changing the conscience code.” It sounded quite ominous. With our universal care we can have abortions throughout the entire time of pregnancy paid for by the taxpayer. A few hospitals still have Catholic names but their Catholic nature is gone. Typical among the choices that must be made by medical personnel is the Catholic doctor I know who was fired from her specialized hospital position (sports health) because she wouldn’t refer for an abortion. She found the only safe place for her was geriatrics. Will that field last much longer for her? The lines between natural death and euthanasia is blurring at an incredible rate. Euthanasia is much cheaper.
May 19, 2009 at 2:57 pm
The fact is, if ND had been a Catholic college, it’s graduates would not have allowed this. That they welcomed it shows more about ND than the invite.
Alas, it is an accurate depiction of “cultural Catholicism.”

THANK YOU for pointing out what has been on my mind all week…so O said exactly what we'd expect him to say, fresh from his teleprompters. No story there.
That Fr Jenkins continues to have the support of his board, the HOly Cross fathers & student body of NDU is, to me, the story. And the real scandal. I wanted to throw up…some other comboxer compared his performance to the French clergy who willingly threw the Church under the bus to try to get in bed with the Reign of Terror &, given Jenkins' speech, that doesn't seem to be to overstated to me at this point.
