I was happy last week to see that there had been some reconciliation between the Palins and Mr. Johnston. This however…
NEW YORK — Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston say they’re engaged – and they haven’t told her parents yet.
Palin, the daughter of 2008 vice-presidential candidate and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is featured on the cover of Us Weekly with Johnston, holding their son, 18-month-old Tripp.
Bristol Palin tells the magazine that she finds the idea of telling her mother “intimidating and scary.” Us Weekly editor Caroline Schaefer said on NBC’S “Today” show Tuesday that Palin approached the magazine looking for a platform to explain why she got engaged.
Palin and Johnston say they reconnected while working out a custody plan and became engaged two weeks ago. Schaefer says they hope to get married within six weeks in a small ceremony in Alaska.
Wow. And this is how you tell Mom?!?
It would seem that Bristol and Levi still have a fair amount of growing up to do. I would hope that they would extend the engagement to make sure we don’t have a repeat of last time.
What do you think?

I think you guys are way too fixated on this family who are 2 steps away from a belated appearance on the Maury Povich show. While I have a fair deal of respect for Sarah Palin as a politician, I don't care for all the theatrics her family has subjected the nation to. Bristol and Levi are Brittany and Kevin wannabes. And your Catholic blog dropped a couple points in legitimacy by going the gossip/tabloid route with this story.

Which is why you'd never be caught dead reading it, let alone commenting on it. (Yeah, I'd remain anonymous too.)

Ouch!
And since when does this blog not cover national politics or marriage issues?
Anyway, David L. A. I agree with you. But I think Levi is a really self-interested guy. If he finds that he's not getting all the attention he wants, he already knows how to go to tabloids and spill beans – true ones or made up ones. Anyway, here's hoping that they end up as a positive example and a happy ending.

So do I. I also don't think he's very smart, or very clever.
If he were here, I'd tell him to his face what a stupid piece of redneck @#$% he really is, for knocking up his girlfriend then being a jerk about it. I'd tell him he's never going to be a match for his mother-in-law no matter what either of them does, so he'd better learn to live with it. I'd also tell him that, for all his efforts, at the end of the day, he won't be famous for anything other than being a stupid piece of redneck @#$%, and that he has the choice of continuing to be a fleeting source of amusement for the tabloids, or being a responsible husband and father and living a normal life.
Then I'd kick his sorry @$$ into the next county, and we'd both go have a beer, and that would be the end of it.
But hey, that's just me.
