All your lunchbox are belong to us.
Mom packed a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, potato chips and apple juice in her daughter’s lunchbox. Enter the lunchbox police.
A North Carolina elementary school forced a preschool student to eat cafeteria chicken nuggets for lunch on Jan. 30 after officials reportedly determined that her homemade meal wasn’t up to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s standards for healthfulness, according to a report from the Carolina Journal.
The newspaper reported that the four-year-old girl brought a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, potato chips and apple juice in her packed lunch from home. That meal didn’t meet with approval from the government agent who was on site inspecting kids’ lunches that day.
The Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Child Development and Early Education requires that all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs must meet USDA guidelines. Meals, the guidelines say, must include one serving each of meat, milk and grain and two servings of fruit or vegetables. Those guidelines apply to home-packed lunches as well as cafeteria meals.
To answer your question, no. There is no end to what liberals think they know better about. No limit.

Can you even imagine how that must have scared that little kid? My autistic son had issues with food textures and colors at that age. He would have gone without eating for the day had they taken away what I sent him for lunch and tried to give him something else. And there is nothing that mother can do about it! Jerk.

it would be nice if more people pulled their kids from public school every time something like this happened.

Thank God, these bureaucrats weren't around when we observed abstinence on Fridays. My mom might have been hauled in for not putting enough protein in my lunch boxes.

Ren; "it would be nice if more people pulled their kids from public school every time something like this happened."
It isn't exclusively a public school problem. My daughter goes to our church's preschool for three days of every week. I can't count how often we get notes telling us we need to provide a lunch that fits state guidelines similar to the ones in the original story. To put it in perspective, this is the same child who will suck down a plate of creamed spinach the same night (yes, I feed my kids spinach and that is the ultimate child abuse. Sue me.).
By contrast her two older brothers go to a public school around the corner with lunches identical to what their sister has. We never get any flak from that school about what they're fed.
It's a problem with people who have nothing better to do with their lives than correct everyone else, unfortunately they're found everywhere. They need to get a real job, I hear McDonalds is hiring.

Okay, maybe I'm showing my own monstrous neglect here, but how is a turkey and cheese sandwich, along with a a banana, not a substantive lunch? Turkey is a lean protein, and that sounds about as healthy for a sandwich as you can make. What, should the mother have packed broccoli instead of chips? Because outside of my 3-year old, there aren't a ton of kids who are willingly making that switch.

This kind of interference with family life ought not to be tolerated. It is a much greater evil than the one the Government claims to be fighting against, and by which it claims validity to act in this way.

Sending in Potato chips in my kids lunch as a protest.
February 15, 2012 at 2:40 pm
Well let's see, the government says that the child needs "one serving each of meat, milk and grain and two servings of fruit or vegetables."
Turkey — meat
Cheese — dairy (cheese is made from milk)
grain — bread
banana — fruit
apple juice — fruit
So how did this lunch not qualify from the requirements for a healthy lunch?

What idiots. What if the kid had food allergies? As a person with food allergies, I read labels all the time and I can tell you that a turkey and cheese sandwich is a lot safer than a processed chicken nugget. And allergies aside, I'd be willing to bet that, calorie for calorie, a homemade turkey sandwich is better for ANY of us than a piece of processed chicken that's been mangled at a factory, frozen, transported, and reheated in some dumb school cafeteria.
This government micromanaging of our lives NEEDS TO END NOW!!! From our faith to what we eat — they've got their sticky fingers in every aspect of our lives!!!

1. (SNARKY, SARCASM ALERT!!!) If there was a way that we could sexualize school lunches the PROGRESSIVES would be all for it and they would fight to keep unhealthy lunches.
2. Also the food cannot be made within 300 miles of a factory that might have had a nut in it.
>> Sorry the last couple of weeks with PP, Komen and the whole HHS thing has really gotten under my skin.

According to the article this came from, the lunch did meet the state requirements. So no one seems to know why the person checking lunches thought it didn't, and no one is saying who the person checking lunches was. Sounds to me like over-zealous people with nothing better to do. It was white bread, maybe they aren't allowed to count that as a grain. Or maybe it wasn't enough meat — they actually have a minimum.
One of the last straws for me with our public schools was that they started giving "free" breakfast to every kid in the district. Kind of like the "free" contraceptive stuff — somebody pays, but who? When I called the district to complain they kept sending me from person to person, all of whom were offended that I would have a problem with the government deciding to feed my children breakfast without my permission or my wanting it in the first place. And without making the school day longer, either. When I said that my children needed to eat long before they got to school, more than one person said they could eat twice! So much for childhood obesity. When I said it was my responsibility to feed my own child, not theirs, and that they were encouraging irresponsible people to be more irresponsible, they just got huffy. But we were already feeding the poor kids! Why should they feed my kids too?
The truth is that some schools in the district fed nearly every child enrolled in the school anyway. So they just decided to do it for all the kids in all the schools. They don't care that middle class parents who pay their taxes won't like it. In fact, I discovered that they don't like middle class parents who raise their own children talking to them about anything or questioning anything they do. I did not believe this before I had kids, but after 7 years in public schools, I learned my lesson and switched to Catholic schools. They have a lot of problems too, but they're different problems.

If you give over the care of your precious children to the state, looks like you're going to have your nuggets handed to you on a tray.
Wise up and home school.

I bet they get bigger federal subsidies if they serve lunches… Follow the $$$$ they don't care a rats patutti about kids health…..there's gold in them there lunch boxes!!!

@Pattymelt: One half banana is a serving of fruit, therefore one banana is two servings of fruit. Be sure this will go on your record and when push comes to shove you will be indicted for child abuse. How nice of Michele Obama to give our children MSG in chicken nuggets and "the Pill". It is time to sue for violation of parental rights and endangering the children's lives.

@MichaelP71, I like your way of thinking! There is a reason this is called the CREATIVE minority report!
How about THIS idea: Ladies and gentlemen of the school board, I introduce to you the "Parents' Lunch of Choice". Please allow me to describe it to you. Here we have a turkey sandwich to symbolyze all the Christian turkeys and how we need to rid ourselves of these bigots. Next, we have apple juice, to symbolize that wonderful apple eaten by Eve… we all know she isn't real, but you know… The potato chips are to symbolize those pesky lumps of tissue that those violent pro-lifers are so obsessed about. And last, we have the Planned Parenthood banana.. but (belly laugh) I need not go into what THIS symbolizes. Bwahahahaha!
School board: "I move to accept this lunch of choice… all in favor? Aye. All opposed? …"
Didn't think so 😉
Blessings,

It was a little girl. The nuggets were more than likely laced with hormonal contraceptives and they wanted to make sure she received her daily dose. This is batsh&t crazy stuff.
