While I sorta support the ends, the means are totally unjustifiable.
President Obama, completely bypassing Congress, will grant amnesty and work permits to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration deportation policies.
This election year power grab is an affront to the Constitution. This cannot be allowed to stand.

Seems to me that President Abraham Lincoln did disregard the law of the land during the Civil War (suspending habeus corpus).
The Constitution permits the federal government to suspend habeas corpus during times of insurrection, so Lincoln's actions (later upheld by Congress) were constitutional. Try again.
And Christ may have judged him severely for not upholding the Constitution.
I somehow doubt Christ was much interested one way or the other.
But I will risk that for compassion's sake in my judgment and will not ask that children be deported. Some laws are unjust, and this law that would deport innocent children is one of them.
I don't know how many times it has to be spelled out for you, but the president of the United States lacks the authority to simply ignore the laws of the United States.
Patty, you are perfectly within your rights to urge shredding the Constitution to pieces in order to enact policies that you favor. Just know that you're as every bit a tyrant at heart as any member of the Obama administration.

Any law or constitutional provision must be read so as to conform to Natural Justice; if this is not possible, it is not valid. Having the Rule of Law means laws must satisfy an objective test that is amenable to natural reason. It would be unjust to deport persons who had been brought to live in a country when they were children and were not responsible for the illegal entry. It would not be for the good of the individual or for the common good to deport them. The harm done to innocents would outweigh any argument regarding the integrity of the immigration system – which a nation must have.

Lynda:
Your comment could have been a lot shorter and to the point if you had simply said "the Constitution means what I want it to mean."

Hey knuckleheads, stop shouting at these women. How will we be led to sanctity when we dont even treat women curteously? I get it, this is a move that is contrary to the law….like the refusal to defend the DOMA, and like the HHS mandate. So, its not surprising. Yet, while illicit, the action taken here is a matter of prudence. And certainly we can disagree on the proper limits of immigration. This is categorically different from the other two cases I mentioned, however. And while those moves are worthy of true opprobrium, this move should in no way inspire the ridiculous behavior presented in the above comments. Be men.

My parents immigrated here legally. They did it all through the proper channels. I'm sorry.
Compassion? How about compassion for all the jobless out there? Keep young workers here who entered illegally? That's ridiculous. And, it's such an obvious political ploy.
June 16, 2012 at 4:06 am
I meant to say, I'm sorry, it can be done.

Is this something that an individual can sue over to get it overturned by the courts? Or must this decision stand? And how soon can the impeachment proceedings begin?
June 16, 2012 at 5:12 am
I'll tell you when I started opposing amnesty. It was when the Dream Act came up and the NYT featured a postergirl for the "good" illegal alien. A man in my small town brought me the clipping and pointed out the story in anger, saying, "How is this possible? We did it the right way." He and his wife immigrated from Central American legally.
I skimmed the story and saw that the young woman saved up for college and had been accepted into an Ivy League school. The part that made the man flip out was the amount she had saved: $30K.
That's right. She couldn't even work legally, but she managed to save that much money – which meant her relatives were well-off enough that she didn't need to give any money away. This man and his wife had worked, paid taxes, and had less than $7K in the bank. Their son also worked to help them and send money back to their relatives in Honduras. He couldn't afford to go to community college until a year after he graduated high school.
So how is it fair to let undocumented workers keep working, keep going to school? Also, check out the Newsweek cover story – the arrogance is appalling.

@Scotju Anon at 3:05 PM, illegals, irregardless of their age, don't belong in America. Pres. Eisenhower understood this simple idea and deported thousands of them in Operation Wetback. Bring back OW!
You are the antithesis to Christian charity AND grammar. "Irregardless" is NOT a word in the English language; it is a word semi-literate and very uneducated people use to sound important. Thanks for the clarification, but none was needed.

Obama swore an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution. When Obama violates his own oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution he becomes a perjurer and a LIAR. For evey action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The damage done to the U.S. Constitution and the common good is treason. These people are human beings who may be subjected to penalties and indignities beyond Obama's power to prevent and protect them, causing unrest, violating the peace and bringing chaos to America. The will of the people must be observed in a democracy. The issue must be, MUST BE put on the ballot.
June 16, 2012 at 12:30 pm
Another aspect is that if Obama really cared about these people, and was not just using them to get what he wants, votes and admiration, Obama would proceed legally. Divine Providence will provide for all. Charity is a virtue, an expression of religion, man's response to the gift of Faith from God. Obama has rejected the Virtues, Charity itself and God. Charity, as a response to the gift of Faith from God must be voluntarily practiced by each and every individual according to his own conscience (a fact Obama has ignored in the HHS mandate)and therefore, this issue must be put on the ballot to discern the the true will of the people through the people voting their conscience. FREEDOM

5:49: IRREGARDLESS is a word coined by intelligent people. I have used it many times myself. It points to the ignorance practiced by too many politicians and other unelected individuals to obfuscate and the verb IRREGARDING. It will be codified in the dictionary as a new member of our language and culture, as soon as the dictionary catches up.

"This man and his wife had worked, paid taxes, and had less than $7K in the bank." It is the "paid taxes" that makes us poor. 40 to 50% of our incomes pays taxes and the illegal children go to college free of tuition in the DREAM ACT, and save their unpaid "taxes". How is this fair?

Bill O'Reilly of Fox News is all in
favor of this new Obama plan. I'm w/ Bill.
Why is there an age limit of 30 years ?
THAT'S WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

There should be some fines that these
800,000 people pay to the U.S. Government.

It is the integrity of the immigration system that is being violated. Lynda, your comments are usually top notch. Children of illegal immigrants need to return to where they are from and build their country into a nation that U.S. citizens choose to live. The young people need to build schools and hospitals and a government with a constitution filled with respect and Justice for the person. If you do not love your country enough to die for it, you do not have a country. John Paul II, The Jeweler. Obama has slashed and burned "our constitutional posterity", trampled on "WE, the people" and embraces undocumented aliens."???

Mary De Voe, thank you for explaining that irregardless is spelled that way.
Anon at 5:49 AM, illegals are criminals. Whatever Christian charity that should be offered to them should include warnings from American Catholic citizens that they are breaking the laws of our country by being here illegally. They must be told that they will be bringing hatred and anger down on themselves and their families by flouting our laws. And please, don't give me that line they're just looking to better themselves. Too many of them are dangerous criminals, many of them are involved in the drug rackets. Many homeowners in the border areas are afraid for their lives and their property because these people. My wife's late paternal grandfather had to carry a pistol when he went outside his house. He would probably have to tote a sub-machine gun nowdays!

to all my Mexican brothers and sisters, do not sell your soul for this so called amnesty! Viva Cristo Rey! Viva La Virgen De Guadalupe!

PATTYMELT: I will sit on my hands before I take part in sending children back to Mexico. Why not if the children are Mexican? They ought to be glad to go home.

Subvet 3:09: Justice is predicated on intent. If waterboarding to save an innocent life, then waterboard. Double joepardy of life for every citizen exists when a capital one murder lives. injustice. When John Paul II was begging for the life of a condemned murderer, that very week in Arkansas, a condemned murderer escaped and murdered a man and his young son for the man's truck to make his escape. Racial profiling to prevent crime prevents crime. Did grandma do it? NO.
