I wrote at the time that I thought that Akin should drop out and I understood why the RNC had to pulls funds lest they be forever linked to his dumb comments. But I also said, if he is going to stay in, he deserves a shot to do it without conservatives trying to scuttle the ship.
Now it is way early and much can go wrong, but Akin might still be making a run at this.
Embattled Missouri Republican Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin is holding on in his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, despite widespread calls to quit race over his comments about rape and pregnancy.
Akin trails the incumbent by just one point, 45 to 44 percent, in a new survey by Public Policy Polling. McCaskill’s slight lead is well within the surveuy’s 3.9 percent margin of error.
The survey found that 53 percent of the voters accept Akin’s apology for his comments while 40 percent do not. Just 37 percent now say he should withdraw from the race compared with 54 percent who believe he should stay in.
His favorability rating in the poll still remains low, at 33 percent, but has come up 11 points from the last PPP survey. However, just 40 percent approve of the job McCaskill is doing compared to 55 percent who disapprove.
“The Missouri Senate race continues to look like a toss up,” Dean Debnam,
President of Public Policy Polling, said. “Claire McCaskill’s unpopularity is balancing out the unhappiness voters feel with Todd Akin over his comments last week.”Read more on Newsmax.com: PPP Poll: Akin, McCaskill in Virtual Dead Heat

This goes to show just how unpopular McCaskill is. A point Akin makes in this web ad which he compares his 6 second mistake to her 6 years of mistakes.
Think he can pull it off?

He can pull it off. Personally, I think those who asked Akin to ditch were far to willing to give up the fight far too easily. Sure, he muddled the issue, but if the ad presented here is any indication of his stick-to-it-tiveness, or stick-with-it-tiveness and savvy, then he's got a good chance of winning.
Only the irrational hypercritical fundamentalist media pundits are unwilling to give someone a second chance.

I live in MO and I'm voting for him. He made a mistake and I'm upset that he made the pro-life cause look bad, even heartless. But, he's not Claire. I'm voting for Romney/Ryan too. They're not Obama/Biden. Even if I don't think the Rep. are the absolute best, they'd have to be pretty bad to be worse than the alternatives.

Akin made a mistake and apologized. Yesterday I read a piece about a doctor who confirmed that because of stress, the rate of fertilization after a rape is less than half the normal rate. Just sayi'….

Clair will have some killer ads for the uninformed/undecided voters, but all she has to do is make one slip up to throw the race.
And the GOP can man up, call attention to that slip, and break even on how they acted.

That Akin is even in this race is a testament to just how unpopular McCaskill is in Missouri. She knew Akin has foot-in-mouth disease (not as bad a Biden) as wanted to run against him. He will probably win but lose the seat after one term to Gov. Jay Nixon…which is not a good thing.
