This is rich. A Catholic Democrat state Senator decides the Church is wrong on issues such as abortion, euthanasia, same-sex “marriage” and embryonic stem cell research.
Then, not only does the “Catholic” politician say the Church is wrong, but he puts it out there that it may be illegal for the Church to talk about those issues precisely because they disagree with his political stances.
The San Francisco Gate:
A Democratic state senator says a letter meant for reading at North Dakota Roman Catholic church services is intended to support Republicans.
Fargo Sen. Tim Mathern says the letter could jeopardize the church’s nonprofit status.
Mathern is Catholic. He says he’s asked Bismarck Bishop David Kagan to withdraw the letter. Kagan oversees North Dakota’s Catholic churches.
The letter says abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage and embryonic stem cell research is “never acceptable.”
It doesn’t name any candidate or political party. But it says “the positions of the two political parties and the positions of their candidates are well known” on those issues.
So to be clear, this punk dissents from Church teaching and now says the Church can’t talk about those teachings because he dissents from them.
Mind you, according to this lunatic, the Church can continue being the Church but they just can’t talk about those little issues like life, death, and family.

The dictatorship of relativism in action. In a world obsessed with human "rights", there is denial of the most fundamental of human rights.

I live in Iowa and we have been flooded by political adds paid for by Planned Parenthood. They at the present are receiving government money. Why can they do this when churches are told they cannot make any political comments just because they are tax exempt?

And why isn't Planned Parenthood using the money they are spending on political ads to help more women and to give out more free birth control pills. I thought there too many women who without access to the Pill. Why aren't they helping?

The people have paid their taxes as citizens to tax the people as parishioners is taxation without representation. Two taxes, one vote. Everything every parish has is held in trust for all future generations who have not yet come into existence and people who have paid their taxes. There are no profirts in a non-profit organization. but if the Catholic Church loses it non-profit status, the parishioners need to sue BIG TIME for civil rights, religious discrimination. Parishioners are citizens and do not surrender their citizenship because they go to church. BBUUT, citizens who repudiate our founding principles forfeit their citizenship. Fargo Sen. Tim Mathern needs to go somewhere they do not have freedom.

Although Senator Tim Mathern is way off-base with his criticism of Bishop Kagan's letter, he is not your typical "personally opposed, but" Democrat. He has a 100% pro-life voting record. In fact, as a legislator he almost always votes with the the church. More importantly, he is one of the few legislators I've ever met that believes his faith should influence all he does as a politician. He certainly is in the minority when it comes to that.
He may be wrong on this, but it seems harsh to call him a punk and a lunatic.
