An 11 year old girl asked a question that silenced the Minnesota legislature yesterday. As you know, Minnesota is currently deciding whether to legalize gay marriage. So, according to CNS News, Grace Evans asked a question of the legislature that gets right to the heart of the matter.
She said:
“Since every child needs a mom and a dad to be born, I don’t think we can change that children need a mom and a dad. I believe God made it that way. I know some disagree, but I want to ask you this question: Which parent do I not need – my mom or my dad?”
That is some awesome testimony. All that was left for her to do is flip over the table on the way out and slam the door. In fact, she was so awesome that she could’ve just told someone to do it for her.

Awesome job by Grace. I liked that she repeated the question a second time due to the silence.

This is silly. A child of two gay parents could ask the same thing: "which parent do I not need?" Two parents are best for a child; two healthy adults who have the skills and means to provide a stable environment for a child to flourish. But the gender of each parent is NOT a factor in this equation.

You are very confused. A mother cannot be a father and a father cannot be a mother. Both are needed to make a child and both are needed by that child during his or her life. If it were just a matter of numbers, why, ten "parents" would be lot better than two!

Kinda surprised no one responded "actually, you don't need either parent. The state supercedes those roles."

To Anonymous: Gender IS a factor in this equation! Only those with an agenda don't want to see it.

Out of the mouths of babes, comes wisdom!

And how many millions of children have we condemned to confusion and loss because a couple generations of so-called adults do not get the simple principle that men and women are different and fulfill different and complimentary roles in their children's lives? Missing one or the other means there is a partial and not a whole. It's bad enough when something unavoidable happens to create the situation, but millions of self-centered people have very deliberately created this lack for their children.

Amazing how clearly someone of such a young age can speak! Is there something we can all learn from her?

Whoop! (That's a "whoop" of enthusiastic affirmation, Texas Aggie style).

It takes a male and a female to make a child, clearly. But it's also clear that it doesn't require only a male/female couple to raise a well adjusted child prepared for his own adult life; that particular gender pairing quite often fails in this. I am quite sure that same-gender paired couples have the same success/fail rates as their straight counterparts. That little girl, with her lived reality, is right to ask which of her two parents doesn't she need. So would a little boy be right to ask which of his two moms doesn't he need.

It is not possible to have two mothers or two fathers. And children ought not be intentionally denied being reared by their mother and father. Every child has a mother and father. Forcing a child to live with persons in a homosexual relationship is long-term abuse of the child. It is cruel and concerned only with those persons' desires.

you may be entitled to an opinion, but not the truth……. study after study show that sae-genderedbpaired couples do NOT have the same success/failure rates…..and finally, they are not counterparts & you don't throw the sheep into the pen with the wolf in sheep's clothing ….

"I am quite sure that same-gender paired couples have the same success/fail rates as their straight counterparts."
Your certainty appears to run afoul of studies which show otherwise.
March 22, 2013 at 7:51 pm
Actually , all studies have come to the conclusion that the best set of circumstances for the child is to be raised by their mom and dad, period. The idea that mom and dad aren't different, that they do not bring different strengths to the child and that they do not offer complimentary goods is a fallacious view predicated not on research and experience, but the desire to believe what you want. Its really a sorry state of affairs that we can't have honest discussions in this country. When you oppose gay marriage you are derided as homophobic. Very sad.

Anonymous has nailed it. Only our desire "to just get along", to avoid conflict, to appear moderate, has allowed us to cave to the voices of the extremists, those with an agenda. If it were true that there was no difference between hetero and homo sexual marriage, then it stands to reason that a world of 100% homosexual marriages should be just a as valid a human situation as one of 100% heterosexual marriages. At least for the first 80-90 years until the human species died out.

The folks who think that parenting has nothing to do with gender know little about child psychology.
Anyone who thinks this child's question is "silly" is fairly prejudiced against children.

"gay marriage"
Nope. "Same-sex sham marriage" is the phrase you're struggling toward, Matthew Archbold.

Children understand what some adults pretend not to so that they can play God.
