The persecuted German homeschooling family, the Romeikes, that yesterday were denied an appeal by the Supreme Court of their asylum request have today been granted a reprieve!!
As reported on FB by the HSLDA.
BREAKING NEWS!!! The Romeikes can stay!!!
Today, a Supervisor with the Department of Homeland Security called a member of our legal team to inform us that the Romeike family has been granted “indefinite deferred status”. This means that the Romeikes can stay in the United States permanently (unless they are convicted of a crime, etc.)
This is an incredible victory that can only be credited to our Almighty God.
We also want to thank those of who spoke up on this issue–including that long ago White House petition. We believe that the public outcry made this possible while God delivered the victory.
This is an amazing turnaround in 24 hours. Praise the Lord.
Proverbs 21: 1 “The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord, He guides it wherever He pleases.”
~~Michael Farris
Praised be God. Deporting them would have been unconscionable.

This is indeed great news for them and their supporters. But this is what I predicted from the BIA decision onward. All the asylum law precedent set in this case is bad: the BIA and Court of appeals now have case law that homeschoolers are not a cognizable social group for political asylum purposes.
That's why the DHS appealed after the. Immigration Judge ruled in the family's favor. They knew that it was politically toxic to remove them, but didn't want a precedent to stand allowing asylum for persecuted homeschoolers.
The deferred action route was always their way out– they could look like merciful heroes to this family, while quietly deporting the next ten thousand such families.
Keep an eye on future cases.

Thank you, Lord. What a relief.

They were decent and upright people. The kind that you want as neighbors. Instead of the "lying", highly litigeous, very expensive, unethical criminal illegal aliens, that some of us know, from first hand experience. That don't follow the rule of law, that came here just to exploit our very generous system of government and all its wonderful benefits!
Oops, I better stop talking about certain family members…;)

Thanks be to God! This will not be the last time such a case arises…

You have hit the nail on the head. This is a pyrrhic victory. Not just for the case law precedence, that's bad enough, but, it shows how far out of whack our government is from our roots. The government persecuted the religious refugees, not welcomed them. My God what have we become? Our government has turned a corner I fear. St Michael Defend us in Battle!

It is reported that Romeike family has had one child born since coming here (who is thus a U.S. citizen.) Deporting them, when most "anchor baby" families are not, would be politically incendiary.
I think the White House granted this reprieve to avoid further outraging conservatives. They do not want to frustrate the efforts of Republicans in Congress who support amnesty for illegal immigrants.
The Administration has done this to further their own ends, but thanks be to God for this happy result.
