If you prefer to live in denial that puppet masses are the wild fiction of rad-trad minds, please stop reading right now.
No matter how many times this happens, we must remember that there is nothing to see here.
Actors and musicians presented Palm Sunday Family Mass with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Community in Minneapolis. Christians around the world celebrated Palm Sunday with the story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, when the crowds waved palm branches.
Remember, you never read this post.
Oh, and be sure to check out their Gym Masses with pre-mass lay speakers and Beatles tunes during mass.
Talented parish and guest musicians, relevant and inspiring songs and a community filled with the Spirit also define our Sunday Mass at St. Joan of Arc. Our musicians embrace, with joy and respect, music’s power to bring together all of the elements of worship: word, ritual and prayer. Whether an old folk tune calling for peace, a Beatles favorite or a traditional hymn made new again, we present the sacred songs of lived experience that bring all voices, young and old, together as one. Our music opens hearts to the Divine and sends us into the world with joy, hope and a renewed commitment to our mission. We would love you to come see for yourself. We’re in the Gym Sundays at 9 and 11 am.

Demonic!

Took a look at the parish website. You'll be happy to know that, as part of their Holy Week schedule they're offering a "Traditional Ritual " seder meal.(Nothing wrong with that). Maybe next year, they'll really push the envelope and have a "Traditional Ritual" Catholic Mass. Or not.

You must not say Mark Shea's name three times or he appears.

Jesus quote about not giving holy things to dogs should be amended to also include bunnys, raccoons, and horses.

How about the "fire face" looking dude in the last picture?
April 15, 2014 at 4:31 pm
Dude, that's the cast of Lion King. Let me guess the song: "oh I just. Can't. Wait. To be king!"

If by Victoria you mean Victoria, BC—yes, those were wacky puppet-filled years, decades of bizarre activities lasting right up to the puppet master Bishop Remi De Roo's departure in shame. Thanks be to God, two successive bishops have rid our shores of the ugly giant mannequins. There are, however, still a few felt banners to be found.

1970s called they want their "mass" back
April 15, 2014 at 6:10 pm
LOL…you hit it on the head!!
April 15, 2014 at 7:05 pm
1. Those puppets look like the demons who sacrifice Aslan to the witch in THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE.
2. It could be worse — country-and-western. Or worse-worse: transgender exercising puppets singing inclusive country-and-western.
3. And seriously – Saint Joan of Arc was martyred so that the holy sacrifice of the Mass could be mocked on the Altar?

Hopefully the trend of the future with newly ordained priests will be the Latin Mass because you don't see this kind of silliness going on in the Latin Mass because the rubrics have been unchanged according to Soon to be St John XXIII in 1962.The new Mass is prone to abuses like this and was a Benedict Pope Emeritus a Banal On the Spot Product.

Holy cow! It really is called "Heart of the Beast!" Did nobody suggest that maybe this was not such a great name for a Christinan liturgical music/dance troupe?
April 15, 2014 at 10:09 pm
hmm… never heard of this before so I looked it up. From the bulltin of the parish. "Come today at 9 or 11 am for a unique pre-Mass story
of Jesus’ passion. SJA families, actors and musicians
join In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre
to create an unforgettable Palm Sunday experience.
Family Mass follows immediately afterward"

so apparently the picture is from a play that includes a re-enactment of the last supper , presented BEFORE the mass. Not that it should be done in the sanctuary ( if that is where it is at as the bulletin doesn't say. Apparently however no one is calming this presentation is a valid mass .
