Well, the good news is that the bishops are urging Catholics to go to confession. Maybe it’ll make them make the sacrament available for more than one hour a week.
But seriously, this is just the bishops doubling down on Pachamama. Even if they’re not literally prostrating themselves before the figure of an earth goddess, they’re figuratively doing it. It’s either that or a pathetic display of sycophantism trying desperately to gain the recognition of Pope Francis.
Catholics are being urged to divulge their ‘eco-sins’ during Confession as Bishops launch a new environmental campaign.
As part of an initiative to ensure that the Catholic Church plays a role in tackling the climate crisis, it is encouraging congregants to go to Confession, or “reconciliation services”.
The lay-run campaign, called Journey to 2030, was launched last weekend in partnership with the Bishops’ Conference and the Ecological Conversion Group, a volunteer group for young Catholics.
When I go to confession at Our Lady of Perpetual Environmental Stability, I’ll be sure to pray to St. Greta of the UN.
