The Democrats’ failure to ditch the Hyde Amendment and procure federal funding for abortion is due to the strength of the pro-life coalition of Republicans and one other guy. Joe Manchin. This guy.

Let’s be clear. I’m super glad he’s there. He stopped the socialism bill called “Build Back Better.” And now he’s preventing the Hyde Amendment from getting tossed and opening the doors to direct federal funding of abortion.

I don’t know whether this guy is a profile in courage or just responding to the polls but either way this guy has stopped this country from going full on leftist in perpetuity.

Getting rid of the Hyde Amendment was essentially the basic ground floor promise of the Democrats when seeking the majority. President Joe Biden plainly told Democratic primary voters he “could no longer continue to abide by” the Hyde Amendment.

They “won” the majority by hook and crook. But they lost on Hyde. And thank God for that. And the left is not happy.

The Politico:

There is mounting frustration among Democrats’ progressive base that the party — despite controlling both chambers of Congress and the White House — not only haven’t passed new protections for abortion rights, but may now go along with an extension of the half-century old federal funding ban.

“The stakes for abortion care could not be higher right now,” said Destiny Lopez, the co-president of the group All* Above All. “Congress needs to be doing everything in its power to stymie anything that stands in the way of people getting access to abortion care in this country. We need them to take bold stands here.”

Ah yes. Please filibuster for abortion funding. Please expose yourselves as the radicals you actually are. Shut down the government for the sake of Planned Parenthood. Pleeeeeeeaaaaaasssse!

And of course, the pro-aborts are trying out all the plays in their leftist playbook to win, which means they’re calling anyone who opposes funding abortion of being a racist homophobic, anti-immigrant deplorable.

“One of the most fundamental ways to reduce barriers to abortion access and increase health equity is to pass a spending bill that does not include the racist, discriminatory Hyde Amendment, which has denied abortion coverage to people with low incomes, people of color, LGBTQ+ people and immigrants for more than four decades,” said Jacqueline Ayers, the senior vice president of policy, organizing, and advocacy at Planned Parenthood.

Oh nooooo. An executive of Planned Parenthood which was founded by a racist KKK supporting fanatic says we’re racist.

This is good news that Hyde still stands strong. Don’t get me wrong. Plenty of taxpayer money still goes into Planned Parenthood and their counterparts in death but not even close to as much if Hyde were overturned. Now, they have to pretend that none of the money goes to abortion. Not that anyone checks to see how they’re doing that.

But this is actual good news. A few years ago I realized that we tend to spread bad news more quickly than good news and sometimes I remember to do so.

In short, here’s your good news: The world is going to Hell but while we’re going there we’re not directly funding abortions domestically. So maybe there’s still a teeny tiny bit of hope.
