I’m sure many people realize it. It would be true of any Republican who wins national office of any kind. I think the notion is misguided, especially for Christians who support the crudity, directly or indirectly, toward their neighbors, friends, and family members. The truth is that most Americans across the board just want to build a good life for themselves and their loved ones. Some sad portion has been convinced that getting other people’s goats somehow furthers that along. Civic life is not really some zero sum game where there must be a loser for every winner. That is how competitive games are played. On the other hand, there is real life.
