This kid is awesome. Not only did he break school rules by mentioning Christ, he now says he is accepting the consequences of their punishment because he broke the established rules by mentioning Christ.
Never mind that the established rules are total b.s. I say sic the lawyers on them.
This kid’s parents did something right. I worry about my children getting bed sores from the couch but it’s nice to know some parents raised awesome children.
Todd Starnes: A high school senior in Campbell, Kentucky was denied his diploma because he went off-script during a commencement address and mentioned the name of Jesus Christ.
Campbell County High School graduate Micah Price broke from his pre-approved address to give honor and glory to his “Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
“He is the light, He is the way, the truth and the life,” Price said. “Class, everyone in the audience today, I’m here to tell you if you don’t have any of those things in your life, you can’t seem to find the answer, my Lord and Savior is your answer. He will give you the truth, the way and the life.”
Price said in a post… that he stands by his decision and that he will accept whatever punishment the school decides to levy.
“If anyone is in the wrong, it’s me. I went against school policy, school rules,” he said. “I deserve to get punished.”

Not the time, not the place. If you don’t want gays shoving it in your face, then Christians shouldn’t do it either. I’m Catholic, and I would have rolled my eyes and sighed if I were in the audience at that commencement ceremony, just as I would have if the speaker had come out as gay or praised his two gay moms for raising him. Not the time, not the place.

“If you don’t want gays shoving it in your face, then Christians shouldn’t do it either. ” That’s the point. Gays and the LGBT DO shove it in our face and we have to sit there and be nice and take it? No thanks. He did right. Do you think the school would have denied a gay student his or her diploma for thanking his gay community and parents? If you do, then you are so out of touch with reality it makes my head spin.

Disagree. The kid’s not there to preach–save it for church. This is not a religious service at a religious school. This prideful proselytizing (cf. Matthew 6:5) serves to make the kid feel righteous. This kind of action gives Christians a bad name.

Disagree. Mark 16:15- And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
Not just to churches.

A young man of my acquaintance also had a moral challenge. He had been homeschooled by his mother through 8th grade. At that point, he started attending the public high school where his father teaches math, just as his two older brothers and older sister had done.
He made his way through high school and was a popular and good student. He also continued to be an altar server and member of the choir at his home parish and nurtured a devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary. He is good looking, a neat dresser, and is friendly and polite to everyone.
About a month before he graduated, he was assigned to write an essay discussing a current issue by his Civics teacher (or whatever they call government class these days). He chose to write on abortion.
He defended the Church’s clear and logical teaching on the dignity of life, and explained why it is immoral for anyone to take a life, born or unborn. It was neatly prepared, no spelling or grammar mistakes, and it was turned in on time.
He was given an F because the teacher did not agree with him. No other reason given.
He refused to attend his graduation.
John Paul just completed his first year at our Diocesan seminary. (Oh, did I forget to say he was born on the day of St. John Paul’s death? But that’s another story!)
He remains a joyful, faithful Catholic. (He is what I and my 12-year-old friends from Catholic grade school used to call “Fr. What a Waste”). If God does not want him for a priest, he will make some lucky girl a fine husband and father to their children.
JP’s mother, after all this to do, has firmly pledged to educate the two younger children through high school. And Beatrice and Benedict are very happy about it (yes, his little brother’s name is Benedict!)
God is still at work with our teens and young adults, in spite of the loud and constant interference from contemporary culture. It is our part to encourage these young people, and to pray for them !
