Oh boy.
ESPN: The Chicago Bulls waived guard Jaden Ivey for conduct detrimental to the team Monday, hours after he posted a lengthy video rant on social media about religion and other topics that included anti-gay sentiments.
Ivey has gone live on his Instagram account more frequently in the past week, posting at least three lengthy videos after he was shut down for the rest of the season by the team because of injury last Thursday. On Monday morning, he called out the NBA for promoting Pride Month, saying it celebrates “unrighteousness.”
“The world proclaims LGBTQ, right?” Ivey said during the video stream. “They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA does, too. They show it to the world. They say, ‘Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.’ They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim it on the streets. Unrighteousness.”
Me again: Let’s just be clear. If he’d gone on a rant yelling about Trump or ICE or even yelling about how Christians are oppressive, would he be employed right now? We all know the answer because we’ve seen it before.
“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.”

He also had some nasty things to say about Catholicism, but i’m magnanimous enough to where i don’t think that’s a fireable offense. TBH sometimes i have negative things to say about the Church myself…

I agree. But he clearly wasn’t canned for speaking negatively about Catholicism. This is a guy who recently took his faith seriously. He’s right about a lot. He’s wrong about a lot. But he’s in that stage where he wants/needs to share it with the world but doesn’t quite know how yet. I pray for him. He’s going to war with the world right now. Good for him. Maybe one day he’ll realize the thing he needs to really counter the world is the Eucharist.

Speaking from personal experience a person with real convictions who sincerely objects to Catholicism has a way better shot at becoming Catholic than a person who is just lazy and doesn’t like us Because Reasons

It’s frustrating to see a player lose his job over his views, especially when the NBA’s stance on Pride Month seems to be a non-negotiable part of their values. But it also highlights how polarizing these conversations can be, and how the line between free speech and professional conduct gets blurred. Ivy’s comments were inflammatory, but it’s worth asking whether the Bulls’ response was proportional or if there was room for dialogue instead of an immediate waiver.
