Who was the best “God” in the movies?
For me, I think it definitely comes down to Morgan Freeman or George Burns. Both bring different things to the role. Freeman definitely comes off wiser. George Burns is just cooler. Only he could have pulled off the line “I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me me.”
I must give some hat tips to other thespians who donned the role of the Creator, though. Kudos to Sir Ralph Richardson’s portrayal of the Big Man in the classic “Time Bandits” about a group of dwarves…uh I mean little people…who work for God but freelance by stealing a map to the time space continuum in order to steal a treasure. One of my favorite movies of all time.
John Huston just had one of the coolest voices in the world. He played God in “The Bible.”
Of course, Alanis Morrisette played God in Dogma. Now I personally wasn’t crazy about the movie but Alanis does have one advantage over all the other movie deities in that she blew up Ben Affleck’s head which gives her some strong points with me.
