Did you hear the news about the petition in England regarding the Traditional Latin Mass? Well, a number of notables and quotables from across the political spectrum – “humbly requests” that the bishops make traditional Masses widely available to the faithful, in accordance with Pope Benedict’s wishes as stipulated in the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum. This Bishops in the UK thus far have acted as if the motu proprio never happened, leaving traditionalists of various stripes in frustration and dissatisfaction.
Among the signatories of this petition are concert pianist Lord Alton of Liverpool, ,Dom Antony Sutch Stephen Hough and Robin Baird-Smith, publisher of Continuum Books, and Bianca Jagger.
Bianca Jagger? No way!?! There must be a song parody in there somewhere…
I can’t get no, satisfactionem
And so I trad, and I trad and I trad and I trad
I can’t get no, i can’t get no
When I’m sittin’ in my pew
And that man does his floor show
He’s tellin’ me more and more
About some active participation
Leaving me in more frustration
I can’t get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that’s what i say
I can’t get no, satisfactionem
I can’t get no, satisfactionem
And so I trad, and I trad and I trad and I trad
I can’t get no, i can’t get no
When i’m watchin’ my tv
And that man comes on to tell me
How outta touch my Pope can be
Because he doesn’t alter his message
But preaches with consistency
I can’t get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that’s what i say
I can’t get no, satisfactionem
I can’t get no, satisfactionem
And so I trad, and I trad and I trad and I trad
I can’t get no, i can’t get no
When I’m prayin’ on my knees
But the man tells me to stand
And I sing Gregorian chant
But the man tells me I can’t
Gotta sing like Steve Van Zandt
I can’t get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that’s what i say
I can’t get no, satisfactionem
I can’t get no, satisfactionem
And so I trad, and I trad and I trad and I trad
I can’t get no, i can’t get no
When the Pope say you gotta give it
But the Bishops they don’t give a whit
So we are signin’ our petition
To try and alter our condition
And save sacred Tradition
I can’t get no, i can’t get no
I can’t get no satisfactionem
No satisfactionem, no satisfactionem, no satisfactionem

It’s only mock and droll, but I like it! I like it! Yes I do…

“It’s only mock and droll”!

This, plus the article and great lyrics by Patrick are the stuff of Catholic genius…shades of Sts. Jerome and Thomas More.

Forgive me for not resisting the temptation to submit my version of another popular British song, Imagine. It isn’t funny, but it is Catholic.
Imagine there’s a Heaven,
It’s easy if you try,
A hell below us,
Above us Holy sky,
Imagine all the people
Living for God’s way ~
Imagine there’s no hatred,
It isn’t hard to do,
No cause to kill or die for,
And one religion too,
Imagine all the people
Living in Christ’s peace ~
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world believes as one
Imagine shared possessions,
I wonder if you can,
No deeds of greed, no hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world ~
You may say I’m a dreamer,
But I’m not the only one,
I hope someday you’ll join us,
And the world will Love as one

I didn’t realise there was a petition (I live in the archdiocese of Liverpool). Might have to sign it. The Archbishop was proposing to dedicate a nearby parish completely to the TLM, but it failed. So they are working on it.
Right now I don’t the TLM exists in the archdiocese, though the Cathedral (and perhaps some parishes) offer the Latin NO, and it’s beautiful.
