Moments before his appearance on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Pastor Rick Warren canceled because he was “sick with exhaustion.” Heck, I’d be exhausted too doing all those back flips.
You see, Warren is exhausted because, I guess, twisting yourself into a metaphorical pretzel is not easy.
You see, Warren, a few nights ago, told Larry King, “I am not an anti-gay marriage activist. Never have been, never will be.”
And he made a point of saying that he apologized to his homosexual friends for comments he made in October to his church in support of Proposition 8 in California.
What? Now, Warren was clearly against gay marriage. There’s this video concerning Prop 8 from Warren to his flock which clearly shows he was against Prop 8:‘
Warren says in the video:
“Now let me just say this really clearly: We support Proposition 8 and if you believe what the Bible says about marriage, you need to support Proposition 8. I never support a candidate, but on moral issues, I come out very clear.”
Well. Not all that clear. Me thinks Warren is bending with the wind a wee bit. I think he’s a little embarrassed to be against gay marriage so he’s saying that he’s against it but he’s not…like…you know…all those wackjobs who are really really against it.
I think Rick Warren has to decide whether he wants to be a celebrity or a Christian.

Pride goeth before a fall. He’s become enchanted with his face on the tube so now he’ll try appealing to a broader base.

Rick Warren’s next book: “The Perfidy Driven Life”

I found a copy of the Promise Keepers’ book someone gave me several years ago. As with this and free church showings of THE PASSION OF THE MEL, Reverend Doctor Bishop Brother Rick (he’s so generous — he gives away other folks’ money) too shall pass.

Exactly. And since he’s making a pretty poor celebrity, he should just go back to being a Christian. Or was his celebrity status as pastor and author the purpose and drive of his life all along? In that case, he should try being a Christian without all that.

Quick, Rick, you need a diversion! Fall back on the old “Whore of Babylon” shuffle.

The problem with these heretical pastors is their physical disconnect with the source of Truth established by that Truth.
Not being founded on the Rock, they are destined to fall. Shallow roots in loose sand allow them to be blown about by every wind.

The Blackadder Says:
When I heard about Warren’s appearance on Larry King, I must confess I had the same reaction: the guy’s a sell out, a coward, etc. After listening to an interview on talk radio the same day, however, I’m of the opinion that Warren’s remarks on the King show were most likely taken out of context.
In the interview, Warren states that he is not a political activist, and therefore wasn’t involved in the political campaign for Proposition 8 in the months leading up to the election. However, because some parishioners had asked for his thoughts on the issue, he taped the video segment in this post a couple of weeks before the election and distributed it to church members. Warren hasn’t retracted anything he says in the video. He was and is opposed to redefining marriage.
As for the apology, this had to do not with his support for Prop. 8 (or with anything he said in the above video), but rather with some comments he made in a Beliefnet interview in which he compared gay relationships to pedophilia. He apologized for that because while he thinks gay relationships are sinful, he doesn’t think that “a consensual, adult relationship is in no way the same kind of a thing as someone taking advantage of a child.”
