You know how conservatives get advice all the time to dump the social issues or risk permanent minority status. We get it from liberals, we get it from the media, and then even Meghan McCain, Kathleen Parker and Arlen Specter types join in.
Well my advice to them is to shut their traps.
I say this because I’m starting to think that maybe (just maybe) pro-choice secularists don’t have our best interest at heart when they give us advice. Shocking, I know.
They say we should just stop talking about abortion and gay marriage because we’re doomed if we continue. But there’s one problem.
Gallup reports today:
A new Gallup Poll, conducted May 7-10, finds 51% of Americans calling themselves “pro-life” on the issue of abortion and 42% “pro-choice.” This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as pro-life since Gallup began asking this question in 1995.
And, of course, traditional marriage supporters are also in the majority as well.
So why again, should we stop talking about those issues, kinda’ like John McCain did. Oh yeah, so we lose. Just like John McCain did.
Now, the poll isn’t all sunshines, unicorns and roses for us. 53% of respondents said they’d want abortion to remain legal in some circumstances while 23% want it legal in all circumstances. But there’s still something to work with there as people are realizing that abortion is wrong.
So don’t stop talking about it, blogging about it, and trying to convince people. We’re winning. It’s going to be a long battle. But one we must win.
