Its Over.
Martha Coakley just conceded!
WOW WOW WOW.
Open thread. Is Obamacare dead?
Update Matt: I don’t think it’s a headshot to healthcare but it’s definitely a gut shot.
This is almost surreal in that two weeks ago we saw the polls and dreamed about a moral victory that could scare the Dems a little. A week ago we started wondering maybe this could actually happen. And then last night I just kept waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under us.
All in all I’m just glad he won big because I think it’s outside the margin of theft. I think.
Update 2 from Matt: I’m excited so I’m blogging. That’s kinda’ sad. I blog when I’m happy. Hey, it beats being a sad blogger I guess.
I hope someone’s taking away Keith Olbermann’s belts and shoelaces tonight. I wonder if Chris Matthews leg is tingling tonight. Maybe – but it’ll only be because he voided himself. (Sorry! But this is great news!)
Update 3: As weird as it was rooting for a pro-choice Republican, the truth is that pro-choice Scott Brown is doing more for pro-lifers than “pro-lifers” Ben Nelson and Bob Casey ever did. Sad but true.

I just watched a little bit of Olbermann (*shudder*) – and he hasn't apologized for his string of insults against Brown – in fact, he added to them. Then he says – "hey, they must be true because Brown hasn't refuted them!"
No, Keith – Brown hasn't refuted them because that would give you credence, and you and your eight viewers don't really matter all that much.
This is a great great day, and I will sleep easy tonight.

Oh why don't all of you just be quiet. His victory still will not stop me in my fight to resist the new English translation of the Roman Missal. We are Church! And WE will not allow a bunch of men tell us that we can't say "WE" believe or "and also with you"! All of you are nothing but a bunch of right-wing conservative crazies!

The guy has a lot of heart, check this out from Wikipedia:
"They also have a relationship with an order of Cistercian Catholic nuns at Mt. St. Mary’s Abbey in Wrentham. The Brown family has raised over $5 million for the order, helping to install solar panels, a wind turbine and a candy manufacturing plant that the order operates. Sister Katie McNamara has said of the family, "[w]e pray for them every day""

Politics makes strange bedfellows, as the saying goes. Can't say I'm sorry at the outcome though.

Te Deum laudamus:
te Dominum confitemur.
Te aeternum Patrem
omnis terra veneratur.
Tibi omnes Angeli;
tibi caeli et universae Potestates;
Tibi Cherubim et Seraphim
incessabili voce proclamant:
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus,
Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra
maiestatis gloriae tuae.
Te gloriosus Apostolorum chorus,
Te Prophetarum laudabilis numerus,
Te Martyrum candidatus laudat exercitus.
Te per orbem terrarum
sancta confitetur Ecclesia,
Patrem immensae maiestatis:
Venerandum tuum verum et unicum Filium;
Sanctum quoque Paraclitum Spiritum.
Tu Rex gloriae, Christe.
Tu Patris sempiternus es Filius.
Tu ad liberandum suscepturus hominem,
non horruisti Virginis uterum.
Tu, devicto mortis aculeo,
aperuisti credentibus regna caelorum.
Tu ad dexteram Dei sedes, in gloria Patris.
Iudex crederis esse venturus.
Te ergo quaesumus, tuis famulis subveni:
quos pretioso sanguine redemisti.
Aeterna fac cum sanctis tuis in gloria numerari.
Salvum fac populum tuum,
Domine, et benedic hereditati tuae.
Et rege eos, et extolle illos usque in aeternum.
Per singulos dies benedicimus te;
Et laudamus Nomen tuum in saeculum, et in saeculum saeculi.
Dignare, Domine, die isto sine peccato nos custodire.
Miserere nostri domine, miserere nostri.
Fiat misericordia tua,
Domine, super nos, quemadmodum speravimus in te.
In te, Domine, speravi:
non confundar in aeternum.
and also:
Non nobis, non nobis, Domine
Sed nomini tuo da gloriam.

Anonymous, your Te Deum has hit exactly the right note. Would I be out of line if I said "dittoes!"?
😉
Praise God, indeed.

Does this mean that the Chicago messiah can't walk on water? Or that George Soros can't be the puppet master much longer?
January 20, 2010 at 4:54 am
"George Soros can't be the puppet master much longer"….
Now wouldn't THAT be nice!
It's reassuring to see that sometimes, still, democracy works. I was beginning to wonder, there, for a while.
It's not over yet, though, not by a long shot. Soros and the "Chicago messiah" have plenty of time, and power, to try to jam their agenda down our throats. So rejoice, but don't lay down your weapons. There's a long, long fight ahead.
But we just might win it.
Deo gratias!

I'm glad the Democratic machine suffered a victory, but I am disheartened that once again, the Republican party (just like the Catholic church) has allowed pro-abortion (Matt, say it like it is, don't mince words just because he is Republican) to represent the party. It sickens me. This is hardly a "victory", it is just the lesser of two evils. And I'm sick and tired of it.

Early Riser, politics isn't like religion. One has to use tactics and be "wise as a serpent" in politics. Save martyrdom for religion. Politics is the art of the possible. And important as politics is, we need to remember that salvation comes from somewhere else.
Moreover, I was thinking as I was watching Brown's victory speech: we can talk to this man, and make a case, and there's a chance he'll listen. He's part way there already.
With Coakley, there'd have been no chance of even getting a hearing. The woman wanted to exclude Catholics (and all Christians) from emergency rooms because we might save a few lives, for heaven's sake….
So although I wish we had a Ronald Reagan on the scene, we don't, and I'm just happy to have one little thin margin–Scott Brown–between me and the tender mercies of Harry Reid and the "messiah from Chicago."
Have patience, fortitude, and courage in the long term, and don't by any means give up the fight–but don't deny yourself the pleasure of a little cautious, judicious, and well-deserved rejoicing just now.
And some gratitude to God for mercies, however small and mingled.

Paul, spare me your moral relativism. The fact is he is yet another pro-abortion polititian that we have to deal with.
January 20, 2010 at 11:41 am
Early Riser,
I don't think it was much of a secret that they are willing to throw abortion under the bus in order to stop Barry HUSSEIN Obama from turning the good ol' US of A into a socialist caliphate.
January 20, 2010 at 1:57 pm
Hey Donkey,
since both candidates are pro-choice, how does voting for one of them over the other throw abortion under the bus when the one we'd vote for would stop the federal funding of abortion?
January 20, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Actually Paul, I think what you said was right on. Thank you for the comment! Salvation comes from God alone, not politics. While it is true that Scott Brown is not pro-life, he does favor parental notification, a ban on partial birth abortion, conscience protections and is also against federal funding of abortions. This is like you said part way there and the best thing we can do is pray for him to open his heart to God's grace and make it the rest of the way. And yes, concerning the current debacle of proposed healthcare "legislation", Scott Brown is doing more than "pro-life" senators Bob Casey or Ben Nelson.

And so Massachusetts gets its moment in the sun.
January 20, 2010 at 3:50 pm
Mike in CT,
Actually, I was referring to the politcally convenient use of "abortion = MURDER" regarding the healthcare bill, not this election. Stupak has been touted for the hope that it kills the bill, not for the hope that it passes with Stupak intact.
