Why is it that someone whose livelihood depends on many people going to the movies to support them, wishes that less people existed?
Ricky Gervais, creator of “The Office” and star of a few movies not many people went to see including “The Invention of Lying”, is saying that he has a solution to the crisis of overpopulation.
The comedian – who does not have children – said ‘irresponsible’ parents should be sterilised.
Gervais, 48, said there were ‘too many unwanted children, too many people who are poor and struggling’.
He added: ‘If they all had a good quality of life, no one would complain. What there is, is too many useless people. Too many people who shouldn’t have children.’
Asked whether there should be a limitation then, he told the Sunday Times: ‘Yes, based on… stupid, fat faces. If there’s a woman in leggings, eating chips with a fag in her mouth, sterilise her.’
It was suggested that Gervais, who grew up on a council estate in Reading, was calling for ‘chavs’ to be sterilised.
But he insisted his views were not based purely on class.
‘I described an irresponsible parent. Chavs could be included in irresponsible though.’
He says he and his girlfriend of 27 years, Jane Fallon, 48, had discussed having children but decided against starting a family.
‘Too much hassle,’ he said.
Gervais is one of those evangelizing atheists and how often do we see it where not only do atheists dislike God but they also aren’t very fond of people.
If they’re all so bright why do their solutions always sound the same? It’s always sterilization or extermination of people they don’t like or approve of.

Just another example of someone who has to be deliberately outrageous because his mediocre talent-eg Rosie O'Donnell- isn't enough by itself to keep his name in the limelight.

Another anti-person actor who won't get a dime out of me.
People like Gervais always assume that their version of happiness and contentment – fewer kids, more things – is the only version that matters or makes sense. They can't understand how many people in the world hold the view that more kids and less things is a better and more fulfilling recipe for happiness.

It frightens me how forcefully Eugenics is making a resurgence.

Well, it makes sense that we would see forces of darkness making a comeback (e.g. Eugenics), when more and more people are proclaiming the truth of life in the womb…As JPII proclaimed, commanded of us, "Do NOT be afraid!!"

Eugenics as a means of curing society of suffering is the new Chihuahua in the purse mandatory intellectual accessory for Hollywood.

You know he was probably being satirical yeah? Ricky Gervais is definitely a rampant atheist, but he rarely says much seriously. His standup is also hilarious.

Hard to tell with those types. But he certainly is living consistently with his views.

Thankfully people like him are not reproducing. Thankfully, people like us are. Eventually the math will win out. I also think people without any hope or God will always find something to complain about, regardless of what they think is a "good quality of life."

I'm sure if his audience dries up the National Endowment For The Arts will be able to drum up a nice subsidy for him.

The gene pool will get along very nicely without Gervais and his daffy eugenics. Fat, stupid faces? He's just a pair of sweatpants and a fag away from getting the ax himself.

Went to the water park a few days ago and found out the lockers were seven dollars. If I ever find the person responsible for that hideous act he will be sterilized!

Let's just say that if Ricky really wanted his girlfriend to get knocked up, he'd have had to hire the job out. Pretty much an open secret in the UK.

I assure you that Ricky Gervias is a very very dry straight-man comedian. That means that when he says something like that, he's saying it because it is funny (in a ridiculous way) to see such a bigoted little man (the character of Ricky Gervais which is distinct from the reality which is private) make such un-PC comments in a very public way, with no shame or sense of propriety. It's a knowing critique on, not so much people with views like that but on any kind of person with extreme but shallow and simplistic views who idea of coming up with a solution to a problem is to come up with the first idea they can think of and staunchly support it rather than to carefully consider it from several different approaches, research and consult to try to actually fix things.
Re Blackrep:
"Fat, stupid faces?…"
Yes, that's why he said it. He was being deliberately self-depreciating and ironic by targeting people who look like him.
P.S. I don't actually enjoy his comedy as I find it a bit too close to the bone. His tragedy-comedies are just too tragic for me! I also suspect that he probably wishes that there was such a simplistic way to solve the problems of the world but realizes that there isn't.

He seems to be angling for the post of Gauleiter of Britain.

Well, he is a comedian. Comedians often push the limits and say things other people are already thinking. People are already thinking like this. My husband works at the county jail. All the correctional officers, nurses, and doctors share this same sentiment. They are especially vocal when pregnant women come in. The idea: Since these people are poor/stupid/drug addicts/abusers/abused/criminals/fill-in-blank they should be sterilized. The nurse actually supports the program that pays troubled young women to volunteer to have their tubes tied. Eugenics is alive and well. Just ask your local politician.

I kind of like Gervais, but not as much now. His attempt at humor is incredibly tasteless. If he wants people to be sterilized he should start with himself.

we haven't seen anything yet. it'll get worse before it gets better.

Funny, I always assumed he was Gay.
