Many good people from the Garden State do not care for the show “The Jersey Shore” because it makes people from Jersey look like, well, idiots.
Governor Christie even went so far as to complain this weekend about the show saying to Jake Tapper on ABC’s This Week that “reality series doesn’t represent ‘the real New Jersey.'”
If I were from NJ (I dodged that bullet when my NYC born parents chose Long Island over Jersey in the early ’60s) I would be embarrassed too. But not just from “The Jersey Shore.” There is someone making Jersey look even worse than JWoww and Snooki. It is “The Jersey Sharia.”
A judge in New Jersey excused the rape of a woman …

I'm no lawyer, just a product of public schooling, but isn't the fact that the law applies the same to everyone the foundation of our legal system? How does a judge mess that up?

That judge should be fired!

This is unbelievable!!

The scary part of this (in the greater context) is the legal positivism of the appeals court. No argument is made that the crime of rape is one based on natural law and, thus, one that should be recognized by any coherent legal or religious system.
What shall we Catholics do when the law forbids us those things that we claim owed to God by divine law; the laws of Holy Church; or the natural law? This appeals court has already determined where the weight of the State shall fall. Note too that religion is treated/referred to as a "belief" and, hence, not something that can or should be recognized as making a recognized claim.

On the one hand, my heart goes out to the "bride" since she was just an ignorant 17-year-old who didn't know her rights.
On the other hand, this SHOULD have been a wake-up call to her: If you are going to follow Mohammedanism, then you get what you get, as it IS the husband's right to have sex whenever and however he wants it from her under Shari'a law. so, she needs to decide what side of the fence she is going to sit now.
But definitely, the judge in this case absolutely needs to be removed. Moron.
Finally, this is NOT THE WORST thing to happen in New Jersey. The fact that the New Jersey court system is covering up their murders in order to placate the Mohammedan community there is the real tragedy.

This is how it was done in Europe. Last month, Muslims used the Dearborn Police to arrest Christian prostelyzers who were camped outside thier arab festival. Essientially, the Dearborn Police were enforcing Sharia Law. The New Jersey judge is being used in the same manner.
The only way to stomp this out is through Congress, or congressional acts. The courts move too slowly, and in many cases their opinions are written too narrowly. If the states refuse to give every citizen or resident equality before the law, than Congress must step up to the plate. Given the current crop of cowards that inhabit Capitol Hill (from both Houses), don't expect anything soon.

Jerome – sad that you were duped by fundies (as were many here unfortunately). The Dearborn Arab festival was as Christian as it was Mohammedan. The Dearborn police detained some heretic trouble-makers. Totally separate issue than the one at hand here.

I agree that Sharia law ought never to be used as an excuse to break the criminal laws of this country or to commit rapes, murders, beatings, and other acts of violence. That ought to be obvious.
However, there is one thing I worry about: if states or the feds get into the business of officially banning Sharia law, what's to stop them from turning their guns against Catholic canon law next, and, for example, refusing to recognize marriages performed in Catholic churches because the Church won't accept gay marriage? Or refusing to accredit Catholic schools or hospitals because of their opposition to abortion?
Less than 100 years ago the Ku Klux Klan came within a hair of actually outlawing Catholic schooling in Oregon and some other states because they deemed the Catholic Church to be a subversive foreign influence. Who's to say it couldn't happen again? I just think we ought to consider that before we get too enthusiastic about the idea of cracking down on Muslims in general.

Early Riser,
I'm not sure where you get your info, but the Dearborn Arab Festival is an international "celebration of arab culture" (per its web site). There is not one word mentioning Christian or Christianity. And no, the issue isn't seperate. The Christians were on public property outside of the festival. They stood outside the festival and handed out Bibles to anyone wishing to have one. That is thier Constitutional right in case you didn't know. They were arrested for "distrubing the peace". In other words, they were arrested for prosteylitizing to arabs, which according to Sharia Law is illegal.

Anon,
Your confusing civic law with religious law. The RCC never attempted to supplant US civic law with its own canon. As a matter of fact, much of our cultural mores have been derived from the RCC -especially pertaining to families. Many Muslims (if not most) have no problem inserting Sharia Law into our civic code. I'm not sure how defending the 1st Amendment will somehow lead to its destruction.
And you don't have to worry about our elites going after Muslims who defy our laws. Most of our elites are terrified of them
