If the priests who waste their time on that gimmicky crap would instead spend more time in prayer, preparing quality homilies, and improving worship at their parishes, their time would be much better spent. They would also be more effective in serving the Lord. The only people who believe that such hokey programming appeals to young people are those who don't have much contact with young people. Give them depth. Give them truth. Lead them to Christ.

Brilliant! Thank you!
But I don't think the ageing hippies abusing guitars at the Mass will get it.

Anonymous 10:05 – such a wise comment.
"Give them depth. Give them truth. Lead them to Christ."

LOL! "It's like the guilt is coming right at me!"
And I "3rd" what Anon @ 10:58 said. It's sad to see so many priests playing to their peers as opposed to guiding their flock.

Stephen Colbert confuses me… I once posted a video of him and Fr. James Martin on my facebook page and one of my very Catholic friends was all upset that I had done so saying that Colbert was a horrible Catholic.

Of course Stephen Colbert is a horrible Catholic. All that means is he'll probably be chosen by God to be a king or something and be hailed as the wisest man who ever lived for millennia to come. Plus, he'll get a plusher pad in heaven to crash in, cause you know, "the last will be first…"

And, I would put a ten-spot on the fact that none of the commenters have actually watched any of CatholicTV's programming and are thus ignorant of what "gimmicky crap" they're peddling. Way to criticize from ignorance guys.

What's up with the trash talking of fellow CMR readers lately???

Domenico,
Agreed. From what I know about CatholicTV, they make good work and are very faithful to the Church. I do find 3D TV to be gimmicky, but there's nothing wrong with it.

Obviously, the folks here have NO tolerance for humor or satire. Colbert did CatholicTV a FAVOR by publicizing this. More people will tune in because of his bit. I think it's HILARIOUS!

Colbert could almost make me Calvinist.

Silver lining: maybe having Colbert make fun of CatholicTV's tragically awkward attempts to be "hip" will make SOMEBODY there say, "OMG! This really *is* terrible! Maybe we should stick to what we Catholics are actually GOOD at…"
…and then have some young monks and nuns on. Like the spot on Oprah. That was great.
