Disaster. Komen has caved and has reversed the decision not to fund Planned Parenthood. Cowards.
We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives.
The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.
Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.
Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer . Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.
It is our hope and we believe it is time for everyone involved to pause, slow down and reflect on how grants can most effectively and directly be administered without controversies that hurt the cause of women. We urge everyone who has participated in this conversation across the country over the last few days to help us move past this issue. We do not want our mission marred or affected by politics – anyone’s politics.
Starting this afternoon, we will have calls with our network and key supporters to refocus our attention on our mission and get back to doing our work. We ask for the public’s understanding and patience as we gather our Komen affiliates from around the country to determine how to move forward in the best interests of the women and people we serve.
We extend our deepest thanks for the outpouring of support we have received from so many in the past few days and we sincerely hope that these changes will be welcomed by those who have expressed their concern.
They must immediately refund all the donations that have received from pro-lifers! Cowards.

Um… nothing on their website about this. Considering that their wiki page was 'vandalized' and their website was hacked, I'd take this with a grain of salt until there's some more confirmation.

Interesting wording Planned Parenthood can "apply" for grants.
There might be less than meets the eye here.

Well I guess I spoke too soon in telling you that maybe you spoke too soon. Unbelievable.

I am pretty aggravated about this.

Please be wrong, please be wrong, please be wrong…

"We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants" All you need to know about Komen for the Cure.

Gah. DH & I were all set to give money today.

You actually thought that they would stand for something? Saw this coming too!

komen, bad move. Continued funding for murder because of some fake bleeding heart pro abortionists' vile rhetoric.

This was in my twitter feed yesterday from @komenforthecure. "We make decisions based on what we need to do to serve women and find treatments, not on emotional, political or any other grounds."
Apparently saving an unborn baby from being chopped up and sucked out of the womb is not a worthy reason.

Just called to get my money back.

Hey, they needed to make their donation quota so why not lie for awhile and then go back on what they say. Evil begets evil so I am not surprised that Komen would decieve their donors. Shame on them and I hope that all those who donated recently demand their donations back.

There's a reason I stopped supporting Komen years ago – and why I didn't start again based on the original announcement.
The demonically-driven abortion advocates give it their all. Those who give their lives to Jesus give their all. Secular-minded do-gooders are utilitarians and blown hither and thither by whomever shouts loudest and most recently.
(That's also why we're not to put our trust in politicians…)

"We extend our deepest thanks for the outpouring of support we have received from so many in the past few days…" and now we'd like to spit in their faces. Thanks again, suckers!

Assuming you used a credit card to donate, I would call the cc company and ask them to cancel it ASAP.
February 3, 2012 at 5:55 pm
But politics ARE allowed to influence Komen & similar organizations' decisions to ignore the links between abortion/hormonal contraception & breast cancer?
February 3, 2012 at 6:40 pm
If they do not return your money please consider a class action suit. Think of it like a good faith deposit on a home; you donated based on the good faith that Komen would honor their intentions – that they publicly announced.
In other words; you were a mark for a con, scam, grift, hustle, bunko, bunco, swindle, flimflam, gaffle, bamboozle…
Don't let them get away with your money. You have documented proof!

Excuse me but the funding Komen provides to Planned Parenthood is for breast cancer screening not abortion. So people are saying let the under served community of women in areas where breast cancer screening is difficult to obtain get breast cancer? Isn't the basis of Christianity to help those that are less fortunate? The money they get is used to save lives in that respect and people would ask for their money back because of 3% of what Planned parenthood does is abortion, which again isn't even funded by Komen?
