I hate Republicans. The kind of “party” people who are every bit as addicted to governmental power as Democrats and think they know better than the average rabble in the grassroots. This smug and cowardly Senate Republican is a prime example of the type.
A prominent Republican senator just told me that if Romney can’t win in Michigan, the Republican Party needs to go back to the drawing board and convince somebody new to get into the race.
“If Romney cannot win Michigan, we need a new candidate,” said the senator, who has not endorsed anyone and requested anonymity.
The senator believes Romney will ultimately win in Michigan but says he will publicly call for the party to find a new candidate if he does not.
“We’d get killed,” the senator said if Romney manages to win the nomination after he failed to win the state in which he grew up.
“He’d be too damaged,” he said. “If he can’t even win in Michigan, where his family is from, where he grew up.”
What about Rick Santorum?
“He’d lose 35 states,” the senator said, predicting the same fate for Newt Gingrich.
It would have to be somebody else, the senator said. Who?
“Jeb Bush,” the former Florida governor.
You stupid little people, you don’t know what is good for you. Us grownups will tell you who to nominate so that we can keep doing everything the way we do it!
Dear Senator Jerk, I would rather go down with Santorum than win with your type. And if Santorum does lose, I hope to God that he takes you with him.
I hate Republicans.

This election is going to be about Obama. Just like the 2010 mid term. The republican party still hasn't figured it out yet…but if we nominate a moderate, the passion won't be there.

I feel the same for Bill O'Reilly sometimes.
He, yesterday, try to convince that Santorum should be like Kennedy and deny his faith to win the nomination and the presidency. It means that every time we have a good politician defending the real truth, he must deny that.
It seems that O'Reilly thinks that economics is much more important that moral, then Romney is better than Santourom for the country, as if economics was not dominated by moral.
Best,
Pedro Erik

Kennedy did not promise to keep God out of politics, only his gift of Faith, his religion. Since God has been exiled from the public forum, give us Santorum.

I will likely de-register from the Republican party if Mitt Romney is the nominee. It isn't about my preferred candidate not winning – none of my first or second (or even third) choices have ever won a contested presidential primary since I became a registered voter in 1995. No, a Romney nomination would signal to me that my philosophy is essentially deemed unacceptable to a majority of the party. I am not going to keep banging my head against a concrete door.
February 18, 2012 at 5:22 pm
I should probably clarify the above comment by substituting "nomination" for "primary." My favorites have won individual primaries, just not nominations.

Yes! Especially the Neoconservative ones! Ron Paul 2012!

I often wonder if O'Reilly, like many of us who are from ethnically Catholic enclaves, somehow managed to "get all his sacraments" without ever getting The Faith. When I think of Santorum my mind often turns to the young David. All the smart money was on Goliath, but with only a few stones and a sling God rewarded David's courage and faithfulness. May the Lord similarly smile on Rick Santorum.
I'd also like to add, at the risk of vulgarity that, like young David, Mr. Santorum is the only Republican candidate with any stones at all.
February 18, 2012 at 6:58 pm
Rick Santorum is a true conservative, a Godly principled man…a real Republican is a true conservative…so many of the Republicans in office now are not true conservatives, real Republicans. Yes, I too think of Rick Santorum as David going up against Goliath…faith and trust in God can conquer many obstacles…pray for Rick Santorum and his campaign!
February 18, 2012 at 8:09 pm
Rick Santorum (and all the GOP candidates) need to explain how they are going to reverse this…
February 18, 2012 at 9:01 pm
I like Santorum too. Just see my FB shared items. The sanator might be thinkign it will end up like Delaware or Nevada. But I doubt it.
Definitely not like the Delaware candidate and I'll leave it at that. And unlike Nevada, can't be cheated as his lead will far exceed the margin of fraud. I think with the high unemployment, people are nauseated with the incessant speeches and on-going campaign of the incumbent.

I am torn. Romney jumped to vote democrat to push Tsongus and weaken Kennedy. I'm tempted to jump party too and vote Santorum to weaken Romney here in Michigan.
It is not Democratic but if the R's do it, the D's should pay em back. Like "operation chaos" to stop Hillary by voting in the enemy's camp. (I don't think R's are the enenmy but with the title with Hate in it, I feel ok saying enemy).

I think the Republican Party has been trying to shift away from the social issues, ever so slowly. They don't like Santorum because they don't want to talk about social issues. They have been wanting to steer the base away from it because they think it is a losing battle over time. I cant stand the republican party either.
Mark Shea is right when talking about dems and repubs: Evil stupid party and Stupid evil party.
February 19, 2012 at 5:16 am
No, Mark Shea is wrong. The real difference is between people who will defend our rights to believe and act freely and those who will not. Both Romney and Obama decided to sign into law health care bills that circumvent freedom of conscience. By disregarding and refusing to enforce DOMA, our president is sanctioning actions that violate our deeply held faith. By providing executive coverage to some religious adoption agencies, but not Catholic Charities, while he was governor of Mass., Romney did the same thing in the same way. He used an order like a king, to stop what he wanted and let the rest proceed. Sound like anyone we know? Hint: He lives in big white house, mostly while his family vacations, likes golf, and his initials used to be B.S.
February 19, 2012 at 3:28 pm
I think Santorum has a real shot at the Presidency if the party can let go of the idea that they need a "Republican Obama". A lot of people will vote for him (and I'm thinking usually anti-Catholic people) because he is NOT a panderer. Everyone knows where the man stands, this is not true for Romney. He's oily (like Obama) and it may be that the Republican dont want to run the risk of a genuinely principled president. Too bad.
February 19, 2012 at 7:55 pm
I'd like to put you in a room with a stone-cold typical democrat like Pelosi and a big softie RINO like Jeb Bush. I believe that your thoughts would be instantly clarified and you would find the love again.
Democrats are very, very bad. Don't let this internal party wrangling tempt you to despair and forget that fact; don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
February 19, 2012 at 8:09 pm
All I gotta say is consider the source: ABC News. Isn't that where George Stephanopolous works? And the source is anonymous? And what he said hardly sounds like the whole party saying that. It's anonymous's personal opinion.
So we've got the personal opinion of some anonymous Republican senator who doesn't like anybody but Romney who says he'll throw a fit if Romney loses. Who cares?
February 19, 2012 at 9:47 pm
I agree with Anonymous FEBRUARY 18, 2012 1:58 PM.
As the Didache puts it: "There are two ways, one of life and one of death; but a great difference between the two ways."
A vote for David will be a vote for the culture of life. A vote for Goliath is a vote for the culture of death. We all know who God chose. Will Americans choose wisely? That remains to be seen.

Fr. Frank:I'd also like to add, at the risk of vulgarity that, like young David, Mr. Santorum is the only Republican candidate with any stones at all.
From what I read he (David) had five stones. I also heard they represented the five books of the Torah. Hopefully, Rick has two stones, the Old and the New Testaments. With God's grace, I pray he aims well and hits the evil giant right between the eyes.

Honestly, I am not as pure minded as a lot of commentators. If I wanted a candidate who was just like me in all ways, I'd run myself. As it is, I have issues with all the Republican candidates, but I will vote for whoever they nominate for one reason. He won't be Obama. If Obama is reelected, I truly fear for our country for one very important reason. He will be able to pack the judiciary with activist judges who will overturn any referendum or law they dislike. And there will go our freedoms.
February 20, 2012 at 4:46 pm
Romney is just a horse of a different color.
