Perfect. You know I see that a judge blocked the fetal heartbeat bill in North Dakota so I look up the judge expecting that he was appointed by a Democrat. But nooooooooo. George W. Bush appointed this guy to the bench. Makes you feel good, doesn’t it?
The Hill reports:
A federal judge on Monday temporarily blocked North Dakota’s anti-abortion law, which banned the procedure as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.
Judge Daniel Hovland said the state’s anti-abortion law β the most restrictive in the country β is “clearly unconstitutional under an unbroken stream of United States Supreme Court authority.β
The state’s law prohibits abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can come as early as six weeks, even before some women know they are pregnant.
βThe State has extended an invitation to an expensive court battle over a law restricting abortions that is a blatant violation of the constitutional guarantees afforded to all women,” Hovland wrote.
The law was set to take effect Aug. 1, but Hovland granted an injunction that bars the restrictions from taking effect while the courts consider its merits.
I love how he brings up the cost of defending the law. You know, because left-leaning people are always so concerned with how much government money is being spent. Yeah, they really stretch every nickel, don’t they? But when it comes to protecting human life, they all become penny pinchers.
