Well, that didn’t take long.
When I saw the Pope’s comments on homosexuality during the wide-ranging interview he granted on the plane ride back from Brazil to Rome, one thought came to mind.
“Oh boy.”
I discuss the misleading headlines and and absurd reactions generated by the comment over at the National Catholic Register.
As always, I appreciate your support over there.

Many Catholic pundits are saying that Pope Francis' comments are entirely consistent with Catholic teachings on homosexuality. To a certain Wall Street Journal reporter, however, Pope Francis' response indicates that "changes are on the way, and that homosexual priests who are hidden in the shadows may now come out into the light." Isn't that wonderful?

You either believe that the Holy Father is being careless with his "off the cuff" remarks, or that the Holy Father is being intentionally vague for some unknown purpose. Both scenarios are worrisome to me.

Unfortunately, what we read as what Pope Francis (or any other Pope) says is not necessarily what was actually said. In the age of editing 911 calls in order to further an agenda, misreporting is only wrong if you get caught and called out on it.

See, all the liberals think he's great right now, but wait till the pope starts making hard statements they don't want to hear…

I just now the bishops dancing — if one can call it that — at the youth pagan festival. Sure wish they'd kept that spectacle hidden in the shadows.

Patrick, your response was so nice. I usually end up saying something about how you can't fix stupid.
Btw, PF referenced the Catechism and reiterated what has always been taught. Read his speech to the CELAM, Bishops Conference of Latin America. Very clear, missional, evangelistic and faithful.
